Yogasana Center 21.11.2020

Hi all - the Yogasanacenter.com address is in limbo while it transfers to a new provider. This means the web site is down and Kristen's email is down. If you wish to reach Kristen, please do so here for the moment while we get her email back to normal. Thank you! - David

I just taught my last class at Yogasana Center. I didn't feel so sad, as I feel confident that the community that I love so much will continue on at 100 Smith. I did just want to kiss the floor and the walls and tell the space how meaningful its been to me, how much I've loved it. Thank you Tim Seggerman for designing my dream yoga studio, and Eli McAfee and Mervin Gustave for bringing it to fruition, and Fred Bivins for coming all the way from Michigan to do the electrical work. Thank you many, many Yogasana students and teachers for sanding and polyurethaning and painting, and for loving it all these years the way I have. I will miss you 118 Third Avenue!

Yogasana Center 12.11.2020

Dearest Yogasana Community, If you haven't heard the news, Yogasana will be offering its last class this Friday, December 1. Yogasana’s building was sold and through an addendum to the lease the new owner can force me to leave, paying me a set amount. He bought the building with the intention of doing just that and making it into a fertility clinic.... To be honest, at first I was heartbroken and then later relieved and at times even elated. Running a business in NYC is no easy thing. The yoga world has changed dramatically in Yogasana’s 14 years. I question whether a small Ma & Pop yoga studio, structured the way Yogasana is, can make it at all. In the time that I have been running Yogasana I’ve had two major events change the course of my life: 1. Having a son and 2. Becoming a Zen Buddhist. With these two things feeding me joy and inspiration, and begging for more of my time, the day to day tasks of running a yoga studio were feeling depeleting. Don’t get me wrong, TEACHING, I LOVE. Just scheduling, managing, administrating, stressing, I’m weary of. My dear friend, Eli McAfee and I have gone in together on a shared teaching space 100 Smith Street, on Smith between Atlantic Ave. and Pacific Street. We don’t intend for it to be just for us, but a shared teaching space for ALL the brilliant Yoga, and movement educators and bodyworkers who are passionate about their work and unable to have a space of their own. Many of Yogasana's teachers will be teaching classes there as well. We're aiming for a January opening. Please reach out to us. We'd love to hear from you and see you in our new places of practicing, learning and being. With a full heart, namaste, Kristen
