Accordin...g to this new article in The Conversation, air pollution exposure has been linked to high COVID-19 cases and deaths. The research they cite indicates that long term exposure to pollutants can reduce lung function and lead to respiratory illness. They’ve also been shown to cause a persistent inflammatory response even in the relatively young, and to increase the risk of infection by viruses that target the respiratory tract. The bottom line: especially if you’re living in areas with higher levels of air pollution and/or feel like your lung capacity has been reduced, consult a medical professional to receive a proper diagnosis of your symptoms.
