Yesterday, our Sports Committee volunteers gathered virtually with Al Sigl Member Agency leaders and staff to celebrate the success of this year's Tennis Benefit, Sports Classic Golf Tournament, and Fine Tastings event. Thanks to the hard work of our dedicated volunteers, along with a little creativity, these three events generated $70,000 in grant funding to help our Member Agencies meet critical program needs. During yesterday's celebration, each agency was able to share how the grants will support programs serving over 55,000 people of all ages and abilities in our community. #AchievingMoreTogether #Volunteers #AlSigl

Give something that means something this holiday season...the American Red Cross is in urgent need for blood donations of all types. COVID-19 Antibodies testing is being offered on all completed blood donations. Learn more at www.redcrossblood.org In 1937, newsman Al Sigl made an on-air plea for donors to help a child in need of a transfusion. The radio broadcast was immediately followed by 600 calls and offers of help. He wrote down the names and blood types on index cards. Over the years, Al’s network of donors grew large enough that it became a Red Cross pilot program for regional blood banks.

As a child, Frank received his first wheelchair from newsman Al Sigl. It was wicker and looked a little like a whiskey barrel cut in half. These days, whenever Frank visits our Golisano Campus at Elmwood, he always nods a quiet thank you when passing by the Al's statue in the lobby. During his radio newscasts or just heading down the street, he was always looking for things that people needed, whether it was a wheelchair, a meal, or just a friendly hello, Frank says. It’s ...that commitment to others that I hope to honor as a volunteer. The belief that we really do achieve more when we work together as a community. Those are the values that I have tried to pass on to my children and grandchildren, Frank says. I couldn’t be prouder that my daughter, Terry, also volunteers for Al Sigl, helping to raise critically-needed funds and help raise awareness about Al Sigl’s shared mission. We hope you will consider a gift today in honor of Al, and our many wonderful volunteers like Frank and Terry, whose years of service speak to the heart of our collaborative mission.
