So its National Dessert Day...so we thought it would be a good time to discuss what is the BEST fair dessert? Is it fried dough, fried Oreos, caramel apples, ice cream cookie sandwiches...something else entirely??? Let the debate begin!... #dessertday Images from: Brett's Fried, Black Sheep Honey Company Cookie House and Angela's Concessions
A Legend has passed. D. Frances Ripley (Dorothy Fick) passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 5, 2021. Born on June 7, 1920, Frances lived over 101 years. She was a fixture in the Wool Nook in the Sheep & Goat barn at the Altamont Fair for many years, visitors had merely a tiny peek at the wonderful life she led. Demonstrating spinning wool, she introduced thousands over the years to the history of their clothing, sheep, and more. Please stay tuned for de...tails on a Memorial Service and Celebration of "Nana Fran's" life to be held at a later date. Please plan to bring memories to share at that time. Today is National Farmers Day. New York's farmers give it their all every day growing the food we eat, caring for the land, and supporting their local communities. Be sure to take some time today to be grateful for those that work in acres and not hours!... #NationalFarmersDay

Merry Christmas from our Fair Family to yours! May your holiday be filled with love and laughter (even if virtual!). Please stay safe and healthy. Thank you all so much for your support this year - despite the pandemic, we celebrated Porter with the Porter Challenge, enjoyed some amazing fair food over many weekends, shared our garden bounty with the local food pantry, and watched amazing athletes accomplish personal bests. We are so grateful to all of the patrons, voluntee...rs, and vendors that supported us this year. We are blessed to be part of an active, caring community. We look forward to 2021.

TBT Several years ago, Amy Anderson, Fair Manager, started an education program with the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE). She attended the annual conference and additional gatherings over the years. Here is a pic from two years ago, when Amy attended the annual conference in San Antonio. And one year later, she completed the IAFE Institute of Fair Management Certificate program. The Altamont Fair is proud of her accomplishments! Congratulations Amy!
