After years of research on art, architecture and landscape Art Parks finally came out sometime in May 2013 The first Italian edition (still available in many bookstores!) front cover displays one of my favorite contemporary landscape projects, the Olympic Sculpture Park. The book is edited by Sassi Editore with a preface by Catherine Seavitt Nordenson. #artparks #landscape #art #architecture
More archival images > @holtsmithsonfoundation . . . April marks 50 years since the completion of Robert Smithson's landmark earthwork, "Spiral Jetty."... Above is a collection of rarely seen black and white photos taken by Smithson during and shortly after the construction of "Spiral Jetty" in 1970. From Robert Smithson's 1972 essay, "Spiral Jetty": "The scale of the Spiral Jetty tends to fluctuate depending on where the viewer happens to be. Size determines an object, but scale determines art. A crack in the wall if viewed in terms of scale, not size, could be called the Grand Canyon. A room could be made to take on the immensity of the solar system. Scale depends on one's capacity to be conscious of the actualities of perception. When one refuses to release scale from size, one is left with an object or language that appears to be certain. For me scale operates by uncertainty. To be in the scale of the Spiral Jetty is to be out of it." Repurposed industrial spaces and objects in dialogue with the natural environment create a new landscape narrative. These 40-years-pls grain bins reproducing different colors of the day sky now frame unobstructed view of the sky while tracking the path of the sun with the range of shadow patterns.
