The City of St. Louis is fighting back against the NFL & LA Rams in a lawsuit seeking $1 billion+ in damages. I hope St. Louis has some "hard hitting" attorneys as the NFL is a formidable court opponent with seemingly endless financial resources. This one should get interesting, especially in light of the recent relocations of the Chargers to LA and the Raiders to Vegas.

I suppose this can be read as a cautionary tale for the American justice system - the old adage "be careful what you wish for"...."be careful what you sue for." This might seem unjust at first glance, and even though the American justice system is undoubtedly flawed at times, it is still the best, most fair in the world. I think it is pretty easy to agree with the Theatre's position in the underlying action.... Make no mistake - this was a horrible tragedy, but sometimes no one is at fault except the intentional actor.

A great athlete taken way too soon. I remember going to a Mets/Padres game at the Shea Stadium and getting Gwynn's autograph before the game - he was a great ambassador for the sport. "Now that the family understands how he was targeted, they understand that the industry knew they had this highly carcinogenic product and they were marketing it to people like Tony," David S. Casey, the lead lawyer for the plaintiffs, told the New York Times. "They want to hold them accountable and let a jury make a decision as to what is proper in this case."

An interesting take on tort reform.
