PRESS RELEASE: At 3:13 this afternoon The Bath Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for a structure fire at 6838 County Route 15 in the town of Bath. Assistant Chief Mike Fiordo was the first to arrive on scene and reported a working structure fire with heavy smoke coming from both the front and back doors of a ranch style home. He requested a second alarm and for the Bath VA to setup a fill site at the neighboring pond at the top of the hill. There was no one home at the... time but firefighters were able to make entry to the home and rescue three dogs from inside. Firefighters and Bath Volunteer Ambulance personnel were able to revive the dogs. One was taken to Steuben Veterinary Clinic and checked over but is doing well. Due to the heavy winds fanning the fire a third alarm was called for more manpower and additional tankers. A Steuben County Highway salt truck was requested for the road icing up from all the water. The Steuben County Fire Investigation Team was also called to help determine the cause of the fire which is still under investigation. Responding to the fire with Bath were Bath VA, Avoca, Hammondsport, Kanona, Savona, Wallace, Cameron, Pulteney, Howard, Thurston with Painted Post to the Bath station for standby to cover any additional calls. The fire appears to have started in the basement of the home and the home will probably be considered a total loss. A small tractor was salvaged from the basement. The fire was called under control at 4:44pm. All units were back in service at 8:55pm. Photos courtesy of John Walczak.

We have had several asking if Santa would be coming around on the Fire Truck this year and we were saying no because of COVID. However we didn't want to completely abandon the children both big and small...Lol. So this year on Christmas Eve starting at 6pm we will be escorting Santa on the fire engine around the whole Village of Bath but we will not be able to make any stops for everyone's safety and Santa's too. We are not sure of any specific route but I am sure you will hear the horns and sirens so the kids can get to the windows to see Santa wave as he comes by. From all of us in The Bath Volunteer Fire Department we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and please stay safe!

With yesterday's snow storm most fire hydrants are buried in snow. If there is a hydrant near your home, please clear the snow and access from the street 3 feet in all directions of the hydrant. When a hydrant is needed there isn't time to try and clear it out then. The time you spend helping us could save a life! Thank you!
