Ex-Chief Hughes was a true friend and mentor to many of us at BHFD. His passing will prove to be a huge loss for Independent Fire Co. #13, and the Mount Kisco Volunteer Fire Department. Our condolences go out to the entire Hughes Family and MKFD. Rest In Peace, Chief.

In #2020 fashion we had to alter or cancel our usually full Fire Prevention Week schedule. However, yesterday we had the honor and privileged to participate in an exclusively outdoor Fire Prevention Presentation for the students at Bedford Hills Elementary School. We thank the staff of BHES and the Bedford Central School District Administration for allowing us to continue with our yearly Fire Education and prevention demonstration while adhering to COVID-19 protocols.

During the course of the past couple weeks members of the Bedford Hills Fire Department participated in a Food Pantry Challenge with the Yorktown Heights Engine Co. # 1. Members from both Departments collected non-perishable goods to be donated to a Food Pantry of each Departments choice. Today, President Bancroft delivered the collected goods to the Community Center of Northern Westchester Food Pantry in Katonah. The Bedford Hills Fire Department was able to collect 339 LBS. of goods, which will be given out to families in need for Thanksgiving.

Each year during our October Monthly Meeting, the Fire Department honor’s our 50,60 and 70 year members with a nice awards ceremony. However, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic going on, the Board of Directors had to get creative to honor these members. Prior, to last nights October Monthly Meeting members of the Board of Directors delivered dinner to each of these members at their homes and honored them individually.
