NEW BLOG POST: Reality TV: Exploiting or Empowering Sobriety? by Eve Goldberg It seems like every reality TV show these days touches on the topic of addiction and sobriety. Watching reality TV shows is my guilty pleasure, but for a while now I have been bothered by how much they promote excessive drinking. As a matter of fact, I don’t think the Housewives could have been as successful as they are without alcohol. They are encouraged by the producers to drink and when they ...do, at least one will overdo it and the drama begins! I hate seeing them embarrass themselves to that level, but somehow I can't look away! Recently, I have noticed that we are seeing the topic of sobriety discussed as some of the characters are ending up in rehab, deciding to get sober on their own, or simply revealing their struggles with substances....... Early sobriety in the city was lonelier for me than my first months after moving there. One day I was sitting around thinking of things to do and literally just googled young sober people NYC. BIGVISION was one of the first things I saw, and the knitting workshop was the first event I attended. I figured, I like crafting and want to meet some other sober people, so why not. Really was a game changer for me. It’s such a good way to keep your mind (and hands!) entertained.... Being able to just dive into a hobby really helped in early sobriety when I didn’t know how to spend my time, and having something tangible to show for it is an added bonus. Super grateful for the BIGVISION community and all they’ve taught me. Missing you guys from the West Coast! We miss you too, @dyliful !! We are so proud of you for learning to knit with BV and really sticking to it! You’ve made so many wonderful projects!! Can’t wait to see what else you make! Check out her projects at @dylmakesthings For those of you who’ve never been to knitting, come try it out! We meet every other Tuesday on Zoom! The possibilities of your creativity are endless

Knit nite was all smiles! We had Texas, California, Missouri, New York, and Connecticut in the house last night! In a recent article from @nytimes entitled Pick Up the Knitting Needles for a Mood Booster by @kateatherleyknits it mentioned that although knitting is a single-person activity, many knitters enjoy gathering, both online and in person, to share the successes, laugh about the mistakes and learn from one another. The portability of knitting is crucial, and as ...knitting doesn’t require one’s full focus or attention, you are able to engage with the people around you. We agree wholeheartedly! Sure, you can knit alone, but isn’t it maybe 10x better when you can do it with others!? We LOVE knitting together Join us in two weeks in the new year on Tuesday, January 6th!
