Biomedical Engineering Assistant Professor, Dr. Fake (Frank) Lu, has been awarded a NIH R15 grant for $433,323 for his project titled, "Low-Power Stimulated Raman Time-Lapse Microscope for Tracking Dynamics and Fate of Lipid Droplets in Glioma Cells". A BME Professor and PhD student were recently highlighted in BingU News for their research on wearable biosensors. Assistant Professor, Ahyeon Koh, and 4th year PhD student, Matthew Brown are working on finding the right materials to bind the sensors together and adhere them to surfaces is also an important part of making this technology better. Department Chair and Professor, Dr. Kaiming Ye, has been awarded an NSF grant in the amount of $225,742. As a co-PI, Dr. Ye will be working on the COVID-related research grant titled "EAGER: SARS-CoV-2 Pseudovirus via a novel eukaryotic construction in yeast" alongside researchers from the University of Arkansas.

BME Chair Kaiming Ye and Associate Professor Guy German have received a $182,700 federal grant to help fix the shortage of N-95 masks by utilizing ultraviolet radiation to kill the coronavirus on the masks, making them reusable. This award recognized by Services for Students with Disabilities, helps to highlight faculty who give special consideration to students struggling with disabilities.

Dr. Kaiming Ye (PI) and Dr. Guy German (co-PI) have been awarded an NSF Grant for their new COVID-19 related project. The $182,728 grant titled, "RAPID: Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation for Disinfecting and Reuse of N95 Respirators" is in collaboration with Binghamton University, Upstate Medical University, and United Health Services (UHS).
Dr. Ahyeon Koh, a BME Assistant Professor, has been awarded $345,000 as a PI for the NSF award titled "Stretchable Papertonics". This award, with co-PI Seokheun Choi from ECE, will support their research program to develop stretchable papers enabling the integration of papertronics into soft and curvilinear biological systems with conformal contact.
