Please join us in congratulating Yiming Che! Yiming is a Systems Science doctoral candidate who recently received the Graduate Student Excellence Award in Research. According to the update received, the awards committee found his record of achievement impressive, and supporting evidence made clear that his research has been distinguished. Per his dissertation advisor Dr. Changqing Cheng, Yiming Che exemplifies an outstanding emerging young scholar with exceptional capabiliti...es; he has continuously demonstrated his passion and commitment to research excellence. Yiming’s research brings forward an innovative integration of data science into the modeling and optimization of complex dynamical systems, including high-precision manufacturing processes and power grid networks. While high-fidelity computer simulations are adopted to study those complex systems, the daunting computational overhead has considerably stymied wider applications. Yiming’s transdisciplinary research, which integrates data science and systems science, furnishes a novel approach to accelerating the prohibitively expensive computer simulations and paves the way for optimal design and process optimization for realistic large-scale systems.
