Agriculture has played a significant role in the Town of Amherst since its founding in 1818. Extensive development has reduced the number of farms in the Town, but Amherst remains dedicated to the importance of agriculture in maintaining a vibrant, economically diversified, and healthy community. The Town is now preparing an Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan to ensure that the remaining farmland is protected and to envision new and creative ways to keep agriculture... economically viable going forward. You can participate in this process by completing a short, online survey at www.amherst.ny.us/farmlandsurvey Learn more at www.amherst.ny.us/farmland

Weavers Guild member Ellen McCarthy recently completed this rug using her incredible loom skills. Loom work was important to 19th century life and remains relevant today as makers, in the Buffalo Niagara community and beyond, help to keep these techniques alive. #GuildSpotlight #ItTakesAVillage #MakerMonday

Happy New Year from Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village!

Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village 07.12.2020

Whether store bought or homemade, 19th century toys had an innately charming quality. This doll, circa 1860s, was crafted out of cotton wadding and finished with decorative red stitching. This carriage accompanied by horse and driver, circa 1870s to 1900, was crafted of metal and finished with decorative paints. ... Both surely delighted their recipients. Which is your favorite? #FromTheCollection

This series of photographs was taken in Massachusetts #OnThisDay October 26, 1892. Noted upon the back only as "from Louis," these views were captured on travels "from Holyoke to Springfield" before eventually journeying to the Buffalo Niagara area, where they have found a home in our collection. #OurHeritageYourVillage #FromTheCollection

#ThrowbackThursday memories of a delightful afternoon spent in the Historic Village by our Victorian Dance Society Guild, in celebration of the life and influence of Anthony "Tony" Noto. In 2017 a plaque was dedicated in the Historic Village in Tony's honor. Tony was a founding member of the Amherst Victorian Dance Society and a constant model of enthusiasm, positive attitude, and looking out for the welfare of others. Tony also volunteered as a BNHV school tour docent, specialized in the knowledge of vintage toys and games, played the role of Santa at Christmas events, and engaged in many other behind the scenes volunteer efforts. #OurHeritageYourVillage #ItTakesAVillage #GuildSpotlight #TBT

As the leaves change around us, so too we can find the colors of autumn in our collection. This autograph album was gifted to Jessie Smith of Buffalo in 1881, by her cousins Alice and Emma. Inside each page was filled by friends and family, sharing sweet notes and well wishes through the years. #OurHeritageYourVillage #fromthecollection
