Recap of last night's Brooklyn's Kosher Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival! aka Brooklyn's coolest and best kosher festival eva' Still recovering from the event as I...'m just now getting to this but wow, did we pull it off. When Zohar from Bon & Oak spoke to me about 2 months ago about doing a restaurant festival, it was tough because these events are not easy to pull off and can go very wrong. Will we have enough food, will people come, will people enjoy? The fact that I was doing "The Carlton" at 10:30pm last night kind of answered those questions. Yes, it wasn't easy and it takes lots of back and forth with the restaurants, tons of little details, and the goal is to make it look flawless. There are always things we can do better, but I don't think there is one person who came last night that didn't feel like it was worth it. There is a million things I can say about the event, from the awesome restaurants that brought tons of food and some of their best dishes, to the beautiful decor and ambiance that Zohar works so hard on with his staff, to the added touches like valet parking, picnic benches and house band. It all made for a fun, chilled, relaxed, delicious night. I kept looking at the time and the crowd and I was thinking when is the big rush going to come, when will it be packed where people won't be able to move...and it never happened. It was the perfect mix of space and numbers. It was over 500 people, but it never felt like that. To be honest, we could have had another 100 people and it would have been perfectly fine, everyone loved it. But the best compliment I received last night was from a couple who said that she wants to say thank you for making such an event where all Jews from different walks of life to come and enjoy. Truth is, Brooklyn was the epicenter of coolness last night. The weather was ideal and everyone was there to have a good time and party. And party we did till the end of the night. I was worried about the 4 hour span, which is pretty long, but from the moment we got started at 6:30 where many people showed up on time till the sun went down and the lights and volume went up, the place was rocking with music and energy. Yeah, I broke out my dance moves partly because the night was a success and because we were relieved. And there are many people to thank who without them, it wouldn't have been such a great event. And it starts with the Kauffmans, Zohar and his wife, Sara. I mentioned it on stage and I'll say it again, these guys are the sweetest couple out there and there not just good friends but good people. Thank you for choosing me to help organize and put this night together. You were great to work with and I look forward to doing this again next year. Summer 2018, get ready. There are many restaurants to thank and I will list them here with a few notes, but overall, I was so impressed that these guys took this event seriously and really cared to put out a good showing for all of you. They came from Brooklyn, Five Towns, Manhattan and Monsey. There was food till the very end and not only was it plentiful, it was delicious. I'd encourage you to visit these restaurants and thank them for coming out and being a part of history. And in fact, we've already had other restaurants reach out to us saying they heard it was an awesome event and they want to partake in it next year. * Beast BBQ N.Y. - One of the busiest booths of the night and they came packing with lots of Wendel goodies. People were raving about it and for one only you were able to get his in Brooklyn, now you have to go to Monsey Carving Buffet Station: Turkey Breast, Pulled Beef, Pastrami Baked Beans Pickles Potato Salad Beast Slaw Molasses Cookies, Chocolate Chunk Pecan Blondies, Red Velvet Cookies * Bison & Bourbon - Not sure if people realized, but we had a Bison & Bourbon Cocktail bar when you first came in as they were pouring drinks all night long. Speaking of all night long, these guys never ran out of food. They had tons of brisket even at closing time. Served: Coffee crusted brisket, Brown sugar bacon tacos Bourbon ganache macaroon * Estihana Brooklyn Sushi Bar - another booth that never ran out. You can always rely on Estihana, no matter what, they will come through * Main House BBQ These guys had some delicious pastrami on wonton and baked beans with burnt ends. Everyone loved it. * Wolf & Lamb Steakhouse - Lamb kebabs and citrus marinated wings.
