Friends, you know I have the honor of volunteering with Candlelighters NYC. Today I got to play -for a second time - with my new friend, an amazing 4-year-old c...ancer warrior whom I met on Saturday. I told Rafa that I was planning the play date, and he immediately went into his room. I asked what he was doing and he said he wanted to make a bag of toys for the little boy. He carefully went through his things and selected some books he loved, toy dinosaurs, and even a frisbee. He presented it to our little friend and they proceeded to have a very special play date together. They blew bubbles, played catch, and even ran races (where Rafa pretended to be tired and out of breath ). To say I am proud of Rafa is an understatement. He is so compassionate beyond his years, and I think my greatest accomplishment as a mom has been to teach him to care for others

I didn’t get the chance to post these yesterday...In the life of childhood cancer, everything can be going right that day, having the best day ever! But all tha...t becomes so unimportant when you end up hearing devasting news about your friends...they relapse, they get placed on hospice, or they die. We just continue on through all the heartache and try to live life to the fullest between all the lowest of the lows. Yesterday Aiden was able to attend a zoom Disney princess event through Candlelighters NYC. He enjoyed games, stories, and singing with them and all his other battle buddies on the call. We then went to Conner Prairie and saw their wonderful light display through A Kid Again - Indiana Chapter. We were *loaded* up with lots of snacks and toys. We are so grateful that Aiden is still here with us- and also, well enough to go out on all these little adventures. We are thankful we are not in the hospital this holiday season, so we are donating these toys to the Riley Cheer Guild for the kids who will be stuck in a hospital bed and won’t be able to see the beautiful Christmas lights with their family. Let us know if you would like to donate too.
