Italian-American Heritage and Culture Month To all our Brother Members and Friends, we want to remind everyone to celebrate Italian-American Heritage and Culture Month. Over 26 million Americans of Italian descent currently reside in the U.S. making up America's seventh largest ethnic group. The heritage month is in October to coincide with Columbus Day the national holiday celebrated on the second Monday of the month. Today we celebrate our Italian heritage and our p...assion as Italians for discovery and for life itself. It is this drive for exploration and zeal for discovery that millions of Italian- Americans possessed when they came to America in search of a better life for themselves and their families. Columbus Day gives us a chance to honor these ideals for the sake of our future generations and celebrate the many accomplishments of Italians throughout the world and throughout history. As we endure this trying year and times it is even more critical to Celebrate our Cultures and have HOPE for Ourselves, Families, and Future Generations. Without HOPE we have no LOVE. So CELEBRATE, have HOPE, and LOVE. Italian-American Heritage and Culture Month is celebrated by proclamation of the President and Congress in the United States to honor the achievements and contributions of Italian immigrants and their descendants living in the United States, particularly in the arts, science, and culture.[1] Events are held throughout the month celebrating and educating the public about Italian-American history and culture.[2] It was first celebrated in 1989. The heritage month is in October to coincide with Columbus Day, the American national holiday traditionally celebrated on October 12, now celebrated on the second Monday in October. Heritage Months are usually proclaimed by nations to celebrate centuries of contributions by a group to a country. In tribute to all Italian Americans, the US Congress, by Pub.L. 101128, designated the month of October 1989 as "Italian-American Heritage and Culture Month." Congress again proclaimed October as Italian-American Heritage and Culture Month for 1990 (Pub.L. 101460) and 1993/1994 (Pub.L. 103309). Within the authority of the Executive Branch, the President of the United States has also issued a proclamation in 1989[3] and 1990[4] by George H.W. Bush, in 1993[5] Bill Clinton, and in 2010[6] by Barack Obama.

This year we have very special guests all the way from Italy. They were here back in 2003 and 2009 and We would like to welcome back The Fanfara Bersaglieri from Bergamo Italy. The band just finished playing at St. Patrick’s Cathedral this morning and marching in the NYC Columbus Day Parade after marching yesterday in the Eastchester Day Parade so we are lucky to have them here today and have them perform on this beautiful day.
