Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers and is traditionally observed on the first Monday in September. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894. Labor Day weekend also symbolizes the end of summer for many Americans, and is celebrated with parties, street parades.
I am saddened by the news of the death of Rabbi Shaya Kilimnick. Rabbi Kilimnick was the Rabbi Emeritus at Congregation Beth Sholom after serving as their rabbi since 1976. Rabbi Kilimnick was an extraordinary leader and teacher in our community. He was wise, kind, generous, and devoted to building bridges and creating close connections across the Rochester Jewish community and beyond. He was also a lover of Israel who instilled passion for the land and people in countless pe...ople. In addition, Rabbi Kilimnick’s legacy includes his decades of powerful support for those who survived the Holocaust and their families, ensuring that the memory of the Shoa was honored in dignified and important ways every year. Rabbi Kilimnick was one of the first to welcome me to into the Rochester rabbinate, and he was a friend and teacher to virtually every rabbi and Jewish leader in the city. He led his congregation and our community in ways that made us stronger, closer, and more devoted to Torah. Rabbi Kilimnick leaves a large and loving family, including his wife Nechie, five children (one of whom, Rabbi Avi Kilimnick, is his successor as rabbi of Beth Sholom) and seventeen grandchildren. -- Rabbi Peter Stein
"My boss man was a man of integrity and strength," Warren said. "Didn’t back down from any challenge and somehow made a way out of no way... David taught all of us that the seats that we hold are to be cherished, to be respected and these seats are for the public." --Mayor Lovely Warren
Donna Winchell: "I know our country is greatly divided. Hopefully after all this we become a little bit closer. We need 3 things first. 1 become independent with health products, know more being dependent on communist China. 2 we must become a smarter country through education, college or trade schools. 3 our healthcare must improve for all. God bless all!! Rich"
