At one time Oneida County had its own airport located in Oriskany, town of Whitestown. In the 1940s Utica Municipal Airport was a sod field, but runways were d...eveloped in the '50s and Oneida County Airport opened. The facility was located on 1800 acres and had two runways. In the 1960s it was the home of Mohawk Airlines, which had moved its headquarters to OCA in 1958 from Ithaca. Empire Airlines flew out of the airport in the '80s. Both Mohawk and Empire became part of US Air which left the area in 1995. The airport closed in 2007 and was sold to the state of New York in 2015. Today a business park is housed there and it includes the New York State Preparedness Training Center along with Utica First, Met Life, the Oneida County Department of Public Works and BNY Mellon Innovation Center. #throwbackthursday
