#DDoM2019 is THIS FRIDAY! It will be held at the Schine Student Center, in Jaberwocky Cafe, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Light refreshments will be provided, with vegetarian and gluten-free options available. You don't have to stay for the whole thing; just come when you can. American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART) will be provided. Please refrain from wearing cologne or perfume as it may overwhelm some attendees. We hope to hold this space with you.
Please share far and wide. (FYI, I have not left SU. I have a new role.)

DISABILITY JUSTICE AND MASS INCARCERATION WORKSHOP WITH TL LEWIS! Date : March 29th, 2018 Time: Workshop from 10:00AM to 12:00PM Lunch from 12:00PM to 1:00PM... Where: 228B Schine Student Center, Syracuse University Campus ASL and CART provided. Email [email protected] for accommodations by March 27th and any questions. Sponsored by the Center on Human Policy, Disability Law Society, and the Disability Cultural Center. Workshop Description: People with disabilities represent over half of all people killed by law enforcement and are the largest minority population in our jails and prisons. Yet, advocates rarely view the crisis of mass incarceration through a disability justice lens or approach decarceration advocacy with an intersectional framework. This presentation will explore the historical and present nexus between race, class, disability and structural inequities within the criminal legal system and those systems that feed the United States carceral system. Attendees will learn practical strategies for advocacy in education, legal and prison settings that foreground long-standing federal disability rights laws and that center disability justice principles. The presenter will examine and critique current trends in advocacy and offer innovative and intersectional alternatives that have the potential to stem the tide of mass incarceration for all people.
