Our Lady of Guadalupe’s appearance to St. Juan Diego was a game-changer! It helped the Aztec people to embrace Christianity and it helped the Spaniards to treat the Aztecs with respect and as human beings. In the course of seven years, 6,000,000 Aztecs converted to the Catholic faith. This was the biggest conversion in the history of the Church! This is why Our Lady of Guadalupe is the Patroness of the Americas. St. Juan Diego, the humble man to whom she appeared, was canonized in the summer of 2002. St. John the Baptist is prominent in the earlier days of Advent. There are three reasons why. First, Advent deals not only with Jesus’s first coming as the babe of Bethlehem in the middle of salvation history but also with his Second Coming at the end of salvation history. Second, John the Baptist is the last of the old covenant prophets. Third, John the Baptist is Jesus’s forerunner in birth, message, and death. October’s Theology on Tapas was nothing to stew about! St. Laura of St. Catherine of Siena would have been proud of her chicken stew and plantains. Check out these behind-the-scenes photos from last night’s gathering. Thanks to all those who joined us! The Evangelization & Catechesis cooking team looks forward to seeing everyone again early next month!

God of power and mercy open our hearts in welcome. Remove the things that hinder us from receiving Christ with joy so that we may share his wisdom and become one with him when he comes in glory, for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

On this Memorial of Saint Teresa of Jesus (also known as Saint Teresa of Avila), here is a video made by young Christians during the quarantine of the Taize song, "Nada Te Turbe". The video contains 100 musicians: 87 singers (including an archbishop, 3 priests, 4 Carmelites and consecrated women!) and 13 instrumentalists from France (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8noVAPXiQC8). The words of Nada Te Turbe are those of Saint Teresa of Jesus. Nothing can trouble, nothing can fr...ighten, Those who seek God shall never go wanting. Nothing can trouble, Nothing can frighten. God alone fill us. Stay awake, keep watch. There is no peace on earth. Nothing can frighten those who make the journey and seek God.
