I am saddened that my great colleague and friend, professor Mario Mantovani, has passed away. His kindness was appreciated by all. I was fortunate to see him last June at the SIO meeting in Rimini last year. Professor Mantovani was a great pioneer in sleep apnea surgery, who introduced the modern concept of barbed suture pharyngoplasty aka "Roman Blinds" technique in 2012. I appreciate his including his technique in our textbook on Sleep Apnea and Snoring. His legacy will surely live on. We will all miss him dearly. Sleep Surgery 2019 New York City
