East House 28.04.2021

Today (April 7th) is world health day and this year the World Health Organization (WHO) is calling for action to build a fairer, healthier world for everyone. We hope you'll join us on our journey for a more equitable and inclusive recovery community both at East House and within Greater Rochester. Together, we are moving lives forward! #EastHouseStrong

Did you know it's Social Work month? We asked some of our staff to describe what they do. Follow along to see what they had to say. "East House is like the Land of Oz...come as you are. Like the Tin Man or the Lion, we will remind you of who you are, and guide you along the path that will get you home." - Nia #EastHouseStrong #SocialWorkMonth

Many thanks to all our donors, friends & families who support moving lives forward every day. Happiest of holidays from all of us at East House!

East House 30.11.2020

Our President & CEO delivered some holiday treats on Santa's behalf today to our 9 community residences and apartment programs! It’s been quite a year so we're celebrating with some candy, cocoa and lots of snacks this week.

Sharing some perspective today from one of our employees, JeRonda - she works at Pinny Cooke, our community residence for women. "Officially my title is Counselor, but honestly, I am a teacher. People in recovery sometimes need every kind of help re-learning how to live - from hygiene to cooking to housekeeping - because the road to recovery can knock down your confidence. While this journey is different for everyone, it always has one thing in common: relearning a sense of self." #essentialvoice #EastHouseStrong #movinglivesforward

What does taking care of your community look like? The owner of Caribbean Heritage Restaurant cooked & delivered food for over 35 clients so they could enjoy a holiday meal at two of our houses for people in recovery. During a time when the local restaurant business is struggling & we are all facing many personal challenges, this act of kindness - to take care of others and give back - is so very special. Thank you Lorna & all your family for this gift and delicious meal. #ROC #mightygoodfood #movinglivesforward P.S. Pay it forward and order takeout this winter! Trust us, it's delicious: https://www.caribbeanheritage.net/

"Talking about mental health should be similar to asking people about their physical health..." You can help normalize conversations about mental health. Thanks NAMI Rochester for sharing this important read.

Anyone else dreaming of a blue sky on this grey day?! The sun was shining on Pinny Cooke House last week during a fun little photo shoot. This East House residence for women is named after The Honorable Audre "Pinny" Cooke who was an advocate for women in recovery #journeysofrecovery #wellness

We're dedicated to learning and taking action towards racial equity both within our organization and this community. Together with thousands of individuals & hundreds of local organizations we're participating in a community-wide 21-Day Racial Equity Challenge. This is an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of how inequity & racism affect our lives, will you join us? https://uwrochester.org/equitychallenge
