On Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at 19:34 hours, East Syracuse Firefighters were dispatched to a head on motor vehicle collision at the intersection of E Molloy Road & Thompson Road. East Syracuse Car 1 (Chief Shields) arrived, and found two vehicles, both with heavy front end damage and signs of air bag deployment. All parties from both vehicles were able to self extricate from their vehicles. East Syracuse Engine 4 (Lt. Browne) and Rescue 1 (FF. Sarah Gray) arrived, and took over managing vehicle hazards and making sure EAVES Ambulance personnel didn't need any assistance with patient care. Three patients, all conscious and breathing, were transported to area hospitals for evaluation and care.

The crew also went to the roof to check for extension into the eaves. Crews were on scene for about 2 hours.
INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT - WALMART On Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at 20:33 hours, East Syracuse Firefighters were dispatched to the Walmart store at 6438 Basile Rowe, for an industrial accident with an employee with his leg stuck under a pallet jack. East Syracuse Car 1 (Chief Shields) arrived shortly after dispatch, and found the employee on the stock room floor with the pallet still just inside the rear of the tractor trailer. As the employee was unloading the trailer, he was pul...ling a full pallet of dog food and other supplies out of the trailer, and as he neared the edge of the trailer into the stock room, his foot became caught in between the two steering wheels of the pallet jack, and the momentum caused the pallet jack to continue moving, running his foot and ankle over, trapping him to the ground. His entire foot and ankle were squeezed between the two wheels. Chief Shields determined that the safest way to lift the pallet and jack off of the employees foot and leg would be to utilize an airbag and shoring. East Syracuse Rescue 2 (FF Inglis), East Syracuse Engine 4 (Lt. Browne), and East Syracuse M1 (Capt. Messina) arrived and brought in the airbag system and shoring and started setting up. While the extrication equipment was being set up, the paramedic from EAVES Ambulance administered pain medication intravenously to manage the patients pain. Once the pain medication quickly took effect, crews started the lifting process by filling the airbag, and shoring the pallet and jack as it was lifted off the patient. Once the patient was free, EAVES Ambulance splinted the leg and foot, and transported him to Upstate University Hospital. See more
On Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at 3:35am, East Syracuse Firefighters were dispatched to assist Madison County fire departments with a vehicle fire on the New York State Thruway. Many don't realize this, but the East Syracuse Fire Department actually covers the New York State Thruway heading East all the way to the Madison County line. Upon arrival of East Syracuse Engine 4 (FF Tremont), the North Chittenango and Canastota Fire Departments were already on scene with a working trailer fire. East Syracuse firefighters assisted with opening the side of the trailer and removing the contents to access the fire that had spread to the inside. Crews were onscene for approximatly 3 hours.
As Santa gets ready to head back to the North Pole, he would like to say thank you to the community for a great turn out. It was a pleasure seeing all the waving and happy children.
Santa will be back in the neighborhoods shortly. We had to go to an accident. Listen for the sirens.
Santa will be making his rounds in just a moment. Listen for the sirens!
With snow forecasted in our area this evening please don’t forget to clear out a fire hydrant near your home or place of work!
Sunday December 20th Santa will be visiting our fire district! Unfortunately due to contact restrictions we will not be able to hand out candy canes this year. We’ll be leaving the firehouse at 9am to bring Santa around. Listen for our sirens!
