CM Lander, leaving office, has sat at the city helm on behalf of Gowanus since 2010, just watching the DEP's delay tactics play out in Gowanus as they skip out on these legal responsibilities. This is about protection of the Gowanus community and the health of NY Harbor. The fact that the mayor and the CM Lander would saddle this community with an enormous upzoning that will add significant new envirnomental impacts, while these current cleanup efforts go unresolved, is reprehensible. One thing that is difficult to understand about 19th century planning in Brooklyn, was the choice to build man made lakes and stream in the high hills of what became Prospect Park, while filling in the thriving pond and streams which nature has built at the bottom of the hill in Gowanus.
