We are thrilled to welcome Pia Alexander, LMFT to the Family First team! Pia Alexander is a NYS Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with a unique, healing and transformative therapeutic approach. In addition to her Family Systems training, Pia was extensively trained in both Cognitive Beha...vioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Pia uses her experience teaching DBT skills groups to inform her general practice and specialty with high-intensity couples. Pia is also trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and is passionate about using ACT in her work with both romantic couples and adult parent/child relationships. She is a Level 2 Gottman Couples Therapy trained clinician, and is also Level One trained in Internal Family Systems therapy (IFS). Pia’s work with pregnant women, women in the postnatal period and their partners is informed by her interest and advocacy in the area of total family wellness. As an Adjunct Faculty member and doctoral student in Couple and Family Therapy at Antioch University New England, Pia’s areas of focus are applying culturally attuned therapy models and supervising training couple and family clinicians. As a researcher, she has presented her research at numerous conferences including; Critical Race Studies in Education (CRSEA), American Association of Sexuality Educators Counselors & Therapists (AASECT), The Groves Conference on Marriage & Family and National Council on Family Relations (NCFR). Positive praise is so important for children to hear, especially younger ones. Your positive praise may be what helps your child feel more secure during a tough day. Your positive praise may be the door to a brand new conversation with your child. Your positive praise may be what encourages your child to give positive praise to others. Keep it up! . . . #positivepraise #parenting #therapy #familytherapy #counseling #solutionfocused

Healthy routines help prevent our own personal and family systems from becoming imbalanced and ultimately polarized. Some examples of how to achieve balance come from practicing meditation, healthy communication and relationship growth. . . . #therapy #familytherapy #longisland #internalfamilysystems #ifs #counseling #connection #resilience #personalgrowth

While this post may apply to many, we’re specifically reaching out to those in their 20’s and 30’s who are having a tough time living with their parents right now. Especially those with low paying jobs and student loan debt. While many decide to move back home for financial reasons, please do not disregard your mental health. We are here for you. We are here to talk through any personal, relationship and/or family concerns you may have. . . . We also accept some health insurance plans and some of these plans are waiving copays during the pandemic. Give us a call 516-804-1010 or email us at [email protected]
