Is there someone you’ve never met but you know how lovely they are because of how they’re talked about? That’s Colleen’s Mom. Read @colleenehorstmann reflection about her beautiful wedding, how her mom was anything but absent because she’s always made it a priority to keep her alive. You’ll think of Colleen’s mom as lovely too and if you’ve lost a parent, you’ll find solidarity in the hard, and heartfelt task, of keeping their memory alive. All the hours we spend beautifying our park I sometimes forget it’s a space for me to slow down and remember too

For the first time FMG was featured in the news! The late John Shaffer, a journalism teacher Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District, promised an A grade to any student whose editorial was published in syracuse.com Mateen Boroujerdi submitted an editorial about Ristau’s vision for a memory garden to The Post Standard word of the project spread and he got an A in the class! One of our favorite volunteers, Robbie Pycior, drives from NJ to keep us looking beautiful. Robbie and Rachael met Comfort Zone Camp, a grief camp for children who've lost family members. Bother were grieving their fathers. He helped Rachael find meaning in her grief by listening to her vision of building FMG, and in later years, making the four hour trek to actually garden alongside her. Now he visits his father Joseph's brick, who bravely worked in the Navy and passed in the Pentagon on 9/11 #growtogether #support #community #volunteer #czc #comfort #memorygarden #camp

I have not heard your voice in years, but my heart has conversations with you everyday

For someone who does not have a final resting place to visit for their loved one, the Memory Garden has been a sanctuary. A place to go in times of confusion and struggle to regain balance and serenity. I am very lucky to be a part of a community that has provided such a beautiful area for me to feel connected to my brother. Rachael Mou-Thiel
