On December 9th, 1948 Eleanor Roosevelt addressed the United Nations General Assembly, pushing for the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. She was the US delegate to the UN, and the driving force behind the creation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Right after midnight, it was adopted, and Eleanor got the first standing ovation for a single delegate. She had just made history and changed the world.
Today is Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, where we honor the 2,403 service members and civilians killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, in his speech only a day later, called the attack a date which will live in infamy and then asked Congress to declare war.
Welcome to the first post of Four Freedoms Park Conservancy’s Artist Highlight Series! Throughout the winter FFPC will showcase artists both past and present, many tied to the park in some way. The first two artists:... Jo Davidson (1883-1952), the artist who sculpted the bust of FDR in the Park. Sarah Peters (1978-), an artist who lives and works in Queens NY. Shown here are her bronze figureheads. Sarahpetersstudio.com
