Happy #EarthDay2021! Through art and creativity, our Free Arts Day youth learn the importance of taking care of the environment and healing our planet. March is #YouthArtMonth! Our mission is to ignite the spark in our youth that allows them to recognize and appreciate their full potential. We had an incredible Mid-Winter Break Camp last month with 5 Virtual Zoom Free Arts Days! In addition to the themed art projects, at every Free Arts Day youth draw or create their own positive affirmations like "I am helpful" or "I am love." Which affirmation resonates with you? Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. used his voice to spread his message, and changed the world in the process. Last year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, our youth were prompted to create their own microphones, and think about what they would say to the world if given the chance. Mary, age 12, courageously raised her hand to share in front of over 100 people: If I were going to give a speech, it would be about stopping bullying and accepting one another, she said while showcasing her... own microphone, which she designed based on her African heritage. Free Arts NYC strives to empower our youth, helping them to use their most important tool: their voice. At home, create your own microphone to share your voice with the world. Despite challenges presented by COVID-19, last summer our teens participated in over 50 internships with companies that are leaders in the creative field. Today we're highlighting Shelby's work with @Bustle!
