They’ll encounter members of Third Orders and engage in serv...ice projects that put them in touch with those consecrated to spreading the Good News. Sunday, Apr 18, 2021 THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER Each one teach one Each of us walks through miracles eventually. Maybe we know it at the time and praise God heartily. Or perhaps we only look back later, realize the road’s on fire behind us, and shiver. Sooner or later, we all experience the mystery of grace that carries us over obstacles, through dangers, and ferries us to safety. We are witnesses of these things. And even if we’re reluctant to talk religion to friends, coworke...rs, and strangers, we’ll inhabit hours when it’s time to tell what we know about Divine Providence. Be attentive for when your testimony is required. We remain attentive to the plight of our small Catholic community committed to the evangelization of the Upper East Side. Sunday, Feb 07, 2021 FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Game on The odds for Super Bowl Sunday 2021 were available last February. Tickets for the game have been on sale for as long. But things don’t always happen the way we plan them. Last year, when the Chiefs were pitted against the 49ers, no one imagined how the world would change between one Super Bowl and the next. Still, Jesus comes into our midst wherever we are, whatever our circumstances, and grasps us by the hand. We can...’t be sure of the game plan for the future. But we can trust that Jesus will be there for us. TRUST- a difficult concept for us to consider as we in a scientific way tend to manage out thoughts and beliefs - we over analyze things and worse yet we flex our free will muscles and think we can force outcomes we desire. Our faith community helps us to trust in out God. Sunday, Jan 31, 2021 FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Strengthen the partnership The relationship between parishes and schools is long and intimateimportant to note at the start of Catholic Schools Week. After the first Catholic diocese was established in the United States in Baltimore, pastors lobbied at once for schools and religious to staff them. Frontier pastors vowed to build the school first and the church later. They understood that without proper religious education, ...the parish venture would certainly fail. Today, celebrate this essential partnership in prayer so that schools, parishes and the Catholic Laity will work together for the children as they once did. We are lost in an abyss of finger pointing and Finance forgetting where we came from and what we can do positively together. Those of us in the Our Lady of Peace Community know what it should be like and pray each evening for the restoration of our Parish- we are committed to our faith and our community even after more than seven years. Sunday Dec 20,2020 Fourth Sunday of Advent Unlocking every door Those who have been incarcerated know exactly what it means to face a locked door. So do folks who have been institutionalized with mental illness. But even those of us who have not been behind a literal door may find ourselves living under a sentence of fear, bitterness, depression, or unforgiveness. We may be locked out of relationships that are important to us because of resentment or past actions. Poverty is... often a prison that keeps opportunity and hope out, while also fostering despair within. O Jesus, Key of David, unlock every door that keeps us from experiencing your freedom! Sunday, Dec 13, 2020 THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT Discern the spirit Often we get an intuition, a burning in the heart that feels motivating. It may tell us to speak up or shut up; to reach out or keep our hands off a situation; to admit we need help or to stop leaning on others. Do we obey the prompt, or ignore it? The problem with following what may be a divine nudge is that we can’t always discern the Holy Spirit from a lesser kind. Discernment involves prayer, familiarity with scripture, consultation with faithful others, and sometimes spiritual direction. Above all, it needs to be practiced. Befriend the Spirit! #SundaySermon October 25 THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Worship the God of glory Leadership earns public honors, and the best leaders exercise humility in accepting them. Pope Francis began his papacy by donning simple attire and asking for our prayers before offering his first blessing. Genuine leadership recognizes that all authority comes from God. Today is Priesthood Sunday, honoring the pastors who did their job this year with passion, grace, and ingenuity under extr...aordinary circumstances. Pray the Rosary’s Glorious Mysteries for those who lead us to: rise up from despair, lift our gaze upward, encounter the Spirit’s power, give ourselves body and soul, and accept honor with grace. We contemplate the two great commandments. The Lord and Our Neighbor- touch our hearts especially when all we hear on the media are the gripes and discord surrounding us. They’re drawn out of themselves; they’re attracted and attract others in turn. Believers are lovers in this way, feeling the irresistible urge to share the blessings of faith. That is why, the pope concludes, we must all be missionaries. On this World Mission Sunday, we embrace the call to be ...lovers of our suffering world. The Rosary’s Sorrowful Mysteries hold the keys: Bring global suffering to prayer, be willing to suffer for the truth, bear wrongs patiently, share the burdens of others, and know what’s worth sacrificing for. Today’s readings Include the story of rendering unto the government what belongs to them and what belongs to the Lord our beings in service to others. #SundaySermon October 11 TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Seek wisdom’s light If we learned nothing else this year, it’s that circumstances change. Societies come together and shatter apart. Wellness comes and goes. Markets rise and fall. War and peace exchange places. We climb up and down the ladder of success. If we’re wise, we learn what Saint Paul observed: Spiritual flexibility beats insisting and resisting. Today the Rosary’s Luminous Mysteries guide us to wisdom: ...Partner with the Holy Spirit, trust grace to supply what’s needed, seek the Kingdom’s paradox, recognize Jesus in the faces of the poor, and know that God is present at every table. #SundaySermon October 4 Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Celebrate the joy of new life In a happy collision of observances, October is dedicated to respecting life, supporting fair trade, employing the differently abled, and praying the Rosary. Today is not only Respect Life Sunday but also, in memory of Francis of Assisi, an occasion to bless the animals who share our lives. If you’re seeking an integrated moral code, here’s your chance to champion the spectrum of life.... The Rosary’s Joyful Mysteries lead the way: embrace new life, encourage mothers, support child-affirming laws, recognize the gifts of all God’s children, and respect the wisdom of young people. Respect what a wonderful concept and hard to find in this day and age. Dignity for all people by all- we pray that the Lord helps us to be the Church. We remember when we would gather at our parish churches to have our pet companions blessed. We reminisce and we continue pray the the odds be opened to us. #SaveOurLadyofPeace restore the community that fostered tolerance, understanding and knowledge. A community that inspired Dignity for All. I was reminded this week that Jesus did not eradicate illness he cured people. So we pray for the healing of our country and the disease plaguing the world. #SundaySermon September27 Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Still time to change your mind One of the lovely things about having a mind is that you can change it. A working brain takes in new information, reflects on it, and makes connections. Sometimes the result is a revised perspective on ideas you thought were chiseled in stone. People of faith also pray for wisdom and inspiration, which can be troubling prayers to have answered if you’re banking on the status quo. Jes...us told his followers that folks they had counted out of the circle of grace were being counted in by God. A thoughtful faith will be able to absorb the divine curveballs. Perfect description of understanding today. We are supposed to grow, in faith, hope and love and even enlightenment throughout our spiritual life. This allows us to refocus and not just react in haste and in anger to things we may not understand. A little over 5 years ago our Beloved Church was closed to us- it was sold and although the terms of the sale included one service a week, that did not happen. We are offended but not angered to the point of disrespecting any other faith. We pray that they do not disrespect our faith either, but we have to focus on functioning in a less than honest, and less than honorable world. #SundaySermon September 20 Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time This being the season for returning to school, grade, high school, colleges and Universities as well as CCD and RCIA this Sunday is considered Catechetical Sunday Grow your faith... Who gave you your first God lessons?we thank family members, preachers, teachers, RCIA teams, and others who brought the Good News to us. We’re also grateful for holy ones, like Venerable Mother Theresa Dudzik, who taught by their ex...ample. A remarkable seamstress, Dudzik arrived in Chicago at age 21 after the Great Fire of 1871. She took the destitute into her apartment and sewed to earn money to feed them. In time she founded the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago to run homes, schools, day-care centers, and an orphanage. What will your example be... one of the axioms of faith suggests that we begin a project of faith, work to complete it and a short time before completion turn the project over to someone else who in turn will receive the credit for the action. No it is not fear that the outcome would not be as expected but to let our actions be lead by faith not by accolades. And in doing such lead others to selfless faith. So we thank the Lord each day for our faith and the families that fostered the growth of that faith. We pray to #SaveOurLadyofPeaceNYC a place where many miracles happened with shared prayer and action. Perhaps that is why the public is stymied that the Parishioners of Our Lady of Peace still share their faith. #SundaySermon September 13 TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Share the wealth Jesus tells the parable of the servant forgiven his large debt who then refuses to forgive a small debt owed him. How could we not forgive others, when God has forgiven us so much? Someone always raises the objection that you can’t let someone who kicked you once have another go at it. But that is not what Jesus is asking us to do. He’s not asking us to be fools. He’s reminding us we’re all deep in the red with a debt we can’t possibly repay. Be grateful we don’t have to. #SundaySermon September 6 TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Strive for rugged interdependence Individualismrugged or otherwisehas it perks. But what’s more rugged and infinitely more fruitful is the spirit of communal interdependence. Jesus tells us not merely that there’s safety in numbers, but that Christianity itself is in the balance. A loner Christian simply can’t be found. Even a hermit lives in communion with the greater church. Our gathering hymn at the start of... each Mass tells us why we come together, whether in person or online: because Jesus is present in the love that passes between us.
