Spending the afternoon at the Photonics Next conference listening to topics on new technologies in optics. Speakers are all joining direct from their offices. Honestly, I don’t miss the tired feet and long flights. I do miss catching up with people that I only see at shows.

Today combined with the scramble of getting a cheap game system, some Americans are celebrating Native American Heritage Day instead. I won't even mention the terrible idea of combining this with a crazed shopping day from hell (Ok, I did anyway). This is a newer holiday, officially begun in 2009 to flank Thanksgiving, giving another viewpoint to the long celebrated mainstream holiday. Growing up in Michigan, a land of names like Kitch-iti-kipi, I attended not one, but two sc...hools using the Chippewa warrior as the mascot. (Yes, another topic discussion) Kitch-iti-kipi means "big, cold spring" in Ojibwa and is Michigan's deepest and largest freshwater spring. Living in the upstate New York Finger Lakes region today, I'm again surrounded by beautiful names from the Seneca and Iroquois tribes of the Six Nations. From the @unothegateway article on the topic, https://buff.ly/38Utzyh, "Although a double meaning is defined within the holiday of Thanksgiving, allow the original philosophy of Native people to enrich your own Thanksgiving this year with family and friends. "Give without expecting anything in return." Image: CNN #nativeamericanheritage #accuratehistory #celebrateamericans #nativeamericanhertiagemonth #thanksgiving #learnsomethingnew #fullgallopgoodness

We made it to Thanksgiving, which is also my favorite holiday as it's mostly about planning food and making food, and also eating food. The hubs and I aren't traveling far this year as we can't get across the Canadian border to see family, but we are making up for it in pie. Pumpkin and coconut cream pie to be exact. I am incredibly grateful to still have a business that is open, fantastic clients that have stayed with me, a healthy extended family, and new opportunities th...at are coming in 2021. My wish is for all of you to have a much-needed and well-earned holiday today with the ones you love. xo - Amanda
