***Neighborhood watch update- Keeping the community safe by keeping you informed.*** An ATV was stolen from the rear of a residence on Jordan Ave. A wallet was stolen from a business on Buffalo Road. A business on Buffalo Road had all of its outdoor furniture stolen.... A bicycle was stolen from a shed on Dearcop Drive. ***The following people potentially had their life or another person’s life saved after they were arrested by the Gates Police for DWI.*** Gates Police arrested Cedric Keys (54 years old from Rochester NY) for DWAI DRUGS after Officers were called to the 1500 block of Buffalo Road for a male passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle. A blood draw was refused. Gates Police arrested Ronald Hill (58 years old from Rochester NY) for DWI after a motor vehicle accident on Lyell Road. A breath test was refused. Gates Police arrested Clifford Bronson (33 years old from Rochester NY) for DWI after a motor vehicle accident. A breath test resulted in a .13% BAC. CAMPAIGN D Rocks!

Our Rochester region is currently plagued with unprecedented violence and especially gun violence. This violence is often committed by young adults. Friday night around 11pm. A Gates Police Officer spotted a stolen car on Buell Rd in the vacinity of Wednesdays deadly car jacking. A pursuit ensued which lasted for approximately 2 miles. During the pursuit..... down Brooks Ave.,...... a loaded pistol was tossed from the car. Upon getting the car stopped on Chili Ave., a se...cond loaded pistol was located inside the car. Six people who were in the car were all arrested: 3 adults aged 18....and 3 juveniles ages 16, and two 17 yr olds. Their criminal backgrounds vary from one being a predicate felon at the age of 18...to another having a prior sawed off shotgun robbery. What's broken? The Criminal Justice System's failure to correct behavior and the lack of parenting. Allowing kids to run the streets leads to potentially life long consequences for innocent victims and the unsupervised child. We need the cooperation of parents.

There will be a 5K run starting around 10am from Lions Park going North on Long Pond. Expect some lane closures on Long Pond and Trolley Blvd. til about 11:30am. Please be aware of the runners on the street.

Yesterdays homicide victim from an attempted car jacking on Buell Rd. has been identified as 71 yr. old Richard M. Sciascia of Irondequoit. We assembled a multi agency task force that is working out of the Gates Police Dept. to address this crime spree. There have been approximately 14 car jackings all around Monroe County that we believe are related. From the east side of the County - Irondequoit/Webster - to the west side of our County - Gates/Greece/Ogden - no communi...ty is safe from this dangerous crime spree until the suspects are apprehended. At this time there are no specific vehicles we are looking for. Any tips can be called into 911 or we have set up a confidential tip line at the Gates Police Dept. 429-8275. Yesterdays homicide was a random act of "brazen violence" committed in broad day light This could have been anyone's family member. We are working diligently to apprehend those responsible.

Today we celebrated Sergeant Silvio Palermo's final shift with Gates PD. Uncle Sil as he was referred to by many served 18 years with the Town of Gates, 25 total law enforcement years. Sgt Palermo was in charge of our firearms unit, field training program and day shift watch commander. Sgt Palermo offically retires this week and will take on a role assisting out Veterens as a member of the Veterans Affairs Police Department. We wish Uncle... We mean Sergeat Palermo the very best. A job well done sir!

***Neighborhood watch update- Keeping the community safe by keeping you informed.*** A wallet was stolen from a shopping cart at a business on Chili Avenue. Multiple vehicles and garages were entered from 12/24 12/26 in the area off Trabold Road near Buffalo Road and areas off of Coldwater Road. A suspect in most of the events was captured on camera and can be described as a white male, wearing all black, possibly a black and red sneaker.... ***The following people potentially had their life or another person’s life saved after they were arrested by the Gates Police for DWI.*** Gates Police arrested Kathryn Mcann (46 years old from Rochester) for DWI after a one car accident into a pole on Hinchey Road. Mcann and her vehicle were located and determined to be part of the accident. A breath test was refused. Gates Police arrested Samantha Kilbury (32 years old from Rochester) for DWI after a call for a female slumped over the wheel of a running vehicle on Elmgrove Road. A breath test was refused.

At about 6:10pm a house on Noel Dr. blew up. At this point there are no injuries or deaths......the house is still being checked! We have RGE on scene, numerous fire departments and Law Enforcement personnel as we explore the cause of the explosion. *****There is no danger to the immediate area at this time..... Some neighboring homes were also damaged as a result of the explosion. NO NEIGHBORS ARE INJURED. ... We are working on making sure everyone gets home - traffic on Lyell Rd. by Noel Dr. is restricted. Thank you for your patience!! Please check your surveillance camera's if you live near the scene to see if anything was captured. We do have one video that was sent to us showing the house explode. We will update you as we develop more information! Thank you to all Agencies that have assisted at the scene!

Making new friends.....bridging the gap with a Christmas peanut!

Last night Gates Resident Lawon King was recognized by County Legislator Frank Alkofer, the Gates Town Board and the Gates Police Department for his efforts to assist in the apprehension of suspects breaking into cars in his neighborhood. Mr. King was alerted to someone going into his car from his Ring doorbell. Mr King immediately called 911 and officers responded to the area. Gates police apprehended multiple males going through cars and garages in the area. We at the Gates PD appreciate Mr Kings assistance with this case. We can't be everywhere and his assistance was crucial to stopping further thefts!!

A white male suspect operating a white Chevrolet Silverado was caught in the act of cutting a catalytic converter off of a vehicle on Marway Circle. Suspect fled location. A garage in the 900 block of Buffalo Road was entered and two dirt bikes were stolen.... Overnight vehicle larcenies occurred on Shadywood Drive. ***The following people potentially had their life or another person’s life saved after they were arrested by the Gates Police for DWI.*** Gates Police arrested Rafael Rivera-Velazquez (48 years old from Rochester) for DWI after a one car roll-over accident on Chili Avenue at Buell Road. Driver admitted to being distracted by being on his cell phone causing him to crash. A blood sample was secured at the hospital. Keeping your packages safe! Its that time of year again. Our friends at the package delivery company's are out in full force. Seemingly 24 hours a day!! As more and more items start arriving for the holidays we see an uptick in package thefts. Here are a few reminders, tips, tricks and options for you! 1 - Signature required delivers. This way its required to have a person take possession of the package.... 2 - Have items delivered to a neighbor or relative that you know will be home. 3 - Try not to leave packages out for long extended periods. 4 - Track your packages. Most companies have tracking that way you know when they are coming and can put them inside quickly. 5 - Have the package go to the post office, Fed Ex, UPS, etc for pick up. See more

WANTED WANTED WANTED WANTED WANTED WANTED Last night around 1am, Gates Police responded to Mile Crossing Blvd. for a suspicious vehicle outside a business - possibly stalking an employee. Police arrived and stopped a white Toyota sedan color white with a Pennsylvania Plate of LBG2867. Pictured below is the driver (taken from the Officer's body cam) who has been identified as Stephon Z. Graham age 22. While speaking with Mr. Graham, the officer observed a rifle on ...the passengers side front floor partially covered with a blanket. At this point Mr. Graham sped off and led our Officers on a high speed chase. The chase ended up on 490 Eastbound where the speeds reached over 100 MPH. The chase was terminated due to safety. We are not sure what his intentions were with the rifle - he is on the run and we have charges waiting for him!

This Saturday from 10am - 2pm the Gates Police Department along with our partners at Wegmans will be collecting un-used prescription medications as part of the DEA national "take back day." For proper destruction bring your unwanted medications to the the lobby of the Lyell Avenue store and we will secure them for you. Gates PD has a 24 hour drop box in front of the Gates Police Department if you can not make it during these times. *** NO SHARPS WILL BE ACCEPTED ***...
