We are getting closer and closer to the opening of our spring 2021 fashion exhibit: CONSUMING DESIRES: The Great American Wedding. When and how did weddings become a commercial industry, and did the 19th century American bride legally own any of this stuff after the knot was tied? How was marriage a pathway to legal personhood for enslaved and freepersons in 19th century America? How have we manifested our internal desires into consumable, mass-produced products? These qu...estions and more examined in this Spring exhibit! - - - - #gcvmuseum #JohnLWehleGallery #ConsumingDesiresTheGreatAmericanWedding #Brides #LegalPersonhood #WeddingIndustry See more

On the twelfth day of GCV&M, the memory we give to you is...a year of support and love from our community - YOU! Thank you for supporting GCV&M by giving to our Keep History Alive campaign, enjoying our meals to-go and Confectionery treats, and joining us for online and on-site programs. Together we made memories of a year we will not soon forget. As we wrap up this look back at an extraordinary year, the overwhelming feeling we have is gratitude for our community. You bright...ened our lives in 2020, and we cannot wait to share even more joy with you in the new year. On the eleventh day of GCV&M, the memory we give to you is...the incredible renovation work we were able to accomplish despite all the shutdowns and hurdles, thanks to our dedicated supporters and staff. Improvements included a front porch replacement and new fence at the Livingston-Backus House, St. Feehan’s window repairs, roofing work on the Hamilton House's Carriage House, a Daubing demonstration at Kieffer House, stove repairs and installations at five historic buildings..., and roofing and a complete re-siding of the Humphrey House - gorgeous! And PHEW - A lot of hard work! - - - - - #gcvmuseum #HistoricPreservation #OldHouses #History #TheEleventhDayOfChristmas See more
