Meet Dr. Mason Youngblood, our instructor for this weekend's workshop: Models of Cultural Transmission in Human Populations. Dr. Mason Youngblood (he/him) graduated with a Ph.D. in Psychology at CUNY and is an incoming postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History. His research focuses on the cultural evolution of a wide range of behaviors in both animals and humans, including birdsong, music, and extremism. Over the last several years, Maso...n has investigated how cognitive biases influence cultural transmission using similar methods to those you will explore in this workshop. You can find him on Twitter: @MasYoungblood or on his website: masonyoungblood.com Register for his workshop: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/models-of-cultural-transmissio

Thanks so much to our terrific volunteers, Melissa, Shoily, Caroline, and Wil, who spent their Sunday packing 130 #StrawberryDNA kits for our partners at @MESACharter for @DNADay on April 25! Many thanks to our friends at Illumina, Inc. who donated the kits, and for hosting our Explore Genomics Careers event! Dr. Janina Jeff, Duron Jones, Fiona Nohilly, and Yuri Santos joined our high school participants to give the inside scoop of a day's work in genomics. Happy (belated) @dnaday! #Genomics4All

This animation shows how behaviors, artifacts, and information are culturally transmitted through a population over time. In this case, the Amen break (the most heavily sampled drum break in history) is spreading through a collaboration network of music producers. Each node represents a music producer, and each link between nodes represents a collaboration. Join us this Saturday for our workshop, Models of Cultural Transmission in Human Populations. You'll learn how to use si...mulations to investigate how psychology affects the cultural transmission of behaviors and ideas.
