Over the next month we will be shining a long-overdue spotlight on the hidden figures of untaught history who deserve to be celebrated for their contributions to civil rights, politics, the arts, and beyond. Today we are spotlighting Bayard Rustin. Dr. King is usually credited for the March on Washington in August 1963. But it was Rustin who organized and strategized in the shadows. As a gay man who had controversial ties to communism, he was considered too much of a liability to be on the front lines of the movement. Nonetheless, he was considered to be one of the most brilliant minds, and served his community tirelessly while pushing for more jobs and better wages. https://www.pbs.org//100-amazing-facts/who-designed-the-m/

Dr. Williams performed the first successful open heart surgery in 1893 and founded Provident Hospital and Training School for Nurses (the first black-owned hospital in America) in 1891. From 1893-1898, he was Surgeon-in-Chief, Freedmen's Hospital, Washington, DC. He also founded the National Medical Association in 1895 (African Americans were denied membership in the American Medical Association). As a charter member of the American College of Surgeons in 1913, he was the first and only African American member for many years. https://columbiasurgery.org//daniel-hale-williams-and-firs

If you could find a health drink that would boost performance, improve mood, lubricate your joints, fight off diseases, and maintain healthy function of your bowel, bladder, and brain, would you drink it? Welcome to the wonders of water. Too often we turn to miracle cures and the latest health trends to help us improve our physical, mental, and emotional health. When in fact, all we really might need is a tall glass of water to help us feel better. https://blog.ghrtravelnursing.com/drink-up

Productivity tip of the week - Don’t Multitask. When you juggle multiple things simultaneously, like; sending an email, texting a friend and checking your Facebook while you are in a meeting, you engage in context switching. It takes an average of 25 minutes to return to the original task after an interruption. #productivity #slowdown #tips

#NationalMammographyDay joins in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This day serves as a reminder to all women that the best defense is early detection. A mammogram can often detect a problem before there is any outward physical sign. When you schedule an annual appointment with your physician, make sure a breast exam is completed, too. #nationalbreastcancerawarenessmonth #womenshealth #breastcancer

Today is #EmergencyNursesDay, on this day we recognize the dedication of ER nurses across the nation. We take this day to say thank you to the emergency room nurses for their hard work, dedication, service, and commitment. As they provide unwavering care to their patients and families, their loyalty to the emergency nursing profession does not go unnoticed.
