Attending New York Build Expo this year? Catch our Co-founder Colin Brice, who will be presenting ‘Finding the Diamond in the Rough Making the Most of Underutilized Assets’. As architects and designers, we are interested in how the adaptation and re-use of an existing structure can create a foundation for community involved spaces. Colin will be exploring this idea through past and present Mapos projects. Catch his talk on March 3rd at 1:10pm.

This Saturday: Our Principal and Co-founder Caleb Mulvena will be presenting at Archmarathon Miami. Caleb will be presenting our Innisfree NYC Flagship interior design project. If you aren't familiar with the Korean beauty brand - Innisfree’s ingredients come from Jeju Island, a volcanic island off the coast of South Korea, known for its lush plant life. Mapos used those same plants to inhabit the upper half of scaffolding throughout the store, giving visitors an authentic ...feel of walking around the island. Read more about the project here: http://www.archmarathon.com/en/innisfree-nyc-flagship-store/ Attendees of Archmarathon can look for Caleb's lecture at 12.45pm this Saturday February 29th.

When the visionaries behind The Maker Hotel in Hudson approached us to collaborate on uniting a challenging space consisting of a Warren Street mansion, it’s original carriage house, and adjacent buildings - we were onboard with their vision. The Lounge, Restaurant and forthcoming boutique Hotel have come together at the hands of The Maker Team and local artisans and craftsmen to create a Gatsby-esque expansive property in the heart of historic Hudson. Mapos is pleased to have been a part of the uniquely collaborative space, designed and curated by Lev Glazman, Damien Janowicz and Alina Roytberg. The restaurant, hotel and lounge combine hand-painted finishes, custom carved furniture and restored architectural details to create a space that is as transformed as it is transcended. Take a look at the 3 Times restaurant review in NY Times! We worked with the client to create an authentic influence of the traditional Chinese home, the Siheyuan. Our starting point for inspiration and our approach to this concept led our studies toward strategically modernizing traditional space through material juxtapositions. Classic clay brick and wood, the dominant regional materials, were abstracted to newer modern forms and proportions, giving the restaurant the color... and texture of a traditional space but with a distinctively modern edge. Go for the soup dumplings, stay for the ambiance. https://www.nytimes.com//2020/02/06/d/three-times-nyc.html

Our ongoing renovation in Peekskill, NY is the future home to a creative hub and co-working space. The project showcases Mapos’ adaptive design process by utilizing and restoring many of the buildings original structures whilst updating the space for modern use. It also signifies a growing interest in creative industries - and the people behind them throughout the Hudson Valley. The project is to renovate an existing 10,000 SF, two-story, Civil War era former gasification p...lant. Situated on the banks of the Hudson, it has dramatic views of the river and the mountains beyond. Most of the design efforts were focused on clearing out decades of partitions and restoring the historic brick work and open steel trusses. A new insulated roof and high-performance windows were installed throughout as well. These wintery progress shots highlight the scenery surrounding the historic warehouse and areas of our focused restoration. Large openings are being made in the west façade to be infilled with new glazing systems and overhead doors to maximize these inspiring views of the Hudson.
