Good afternoon Glenville residents, community and followers. I really appreciate the response to the question I posted yesterday about releasing and notifying you about significant arrests in our town. I probably should have been clear about what we would or would not be providing in the release. For those of you that know us well and have viewed media coverage of significant arrests and incidents in Glenville, we do not release information in an attempt to shame or belittle ...a defendant and we do not release information in a way to exaggerate or dramatize an incident. We simply release relevant information of public concern following the rules of the Freedom of Information Law. Most press releases are a result of media inquiry and follow our policy on media relations. My intent for our FB page is to allow you to see some of the major arrests and incidents so you can see what we do. I believe an open and transparent system allows the public to have a better idea of our productivity, activity and some of the serious calls we respond to. I will not release names, addresses or mugshots. I may release pictures, exact locations and evidence if the post solicits a public response in an effort to help us solve a crime, or the information is necessary for public safety. Posts about significant arrests will have the comment section off. As always, the defendant in any arrest is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. SJ See more

Good afternoon Glenville residents, community members and GPD followers. I am looking for your thoughts on our idea to post relevant arrests on our FB page. We have posted information about potential scams, programs, events, fundraisers and other issues on our page. Would you like to see posts about arrests involving unusual or major incidents? Thank you! SJ

Good afternoon Glenville Community and supporters. I must be starting to sound like a broken record, but we are announcing another retirement! Officer Kevin Dunbar officially retires today after serving the residents of Glenville and Scotia for the past twenty years. As most of you who know Kevin, he was our longest serving DARE officer. Kevin taught DARE in the Scotia-Glenville CSD and the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake CSD. Kevin is adored by the fifth grade students in the elem...entary schools he teaches in. He was always the first officer willing to help the schools with special events and community lectures. Kevin will be missed here at GPD for his unmatched wit and humor. Kevin did celebrate his final call-off last Friday. He walked out of GPD led by a bagpiper, walking through members of Glenville Police and Scotia Police. He was joined by his entire family. We wish Kevin health, happiness and good luck in his future endeavors. See more

Good morning Glenville Community and followers. I am sure that most of you know that we have been tasked by Governor Cuomo, through Executive Order, to create a committee of community stakeholders in an effort to look for police reform by discussing GPD policy, procedures and statistics. The goal of the committee is to promote social change through communication of facts, respond to social unrest and injustices, address instances of police abuse, restore confidence, respect a...nd trust between the police and the community and finally, to heal the police-community relationship. These goals come directly from the NYS directive. The goals have been discussed with the committee and extremely positive ideas and solutions have been developed. In a greater effort to reach out to the Glenville Community and those we serve and interact with on a daily basis, we developed a survey. The survey can be found on the Town of Glenville Website and can be accessed by following this link: http://www.survey-maker.com/Q0D5AZ3AN . I would greatly appreciate your help in this matter. Your feedback and honest opinion of our agency will allow us to address any changes that may be appropriate. Thank you so much for your time. SJ See more

Good morning Glenville community and followers of the Glenville Police Department. This post is bitter sweet for me as we announce the retirement of Detective William S. Marchewka. Bill retires after 31 years of dedicated law enforcement service. This retirement has a sincere personal effect on me. Bill and I have been best of friends since first grade. We attended elementary school together and graduated from Saratoga Central Catholic High School in 1987. Bill enlisted in th...e Army and served our country for three years. He was honorably discharged after reaching the rank of Corporal. Bill and I then attended the Zone 5 Law Enforcement Academy in 1990. Our career began with the Saratoga County Sheriff's Department where I worked for seven years and Bill worked for eight. Our journey brought us to the Town of Glenville where we proudly serve. Bill worked as a patrol officer at GPD from 1998 through 2006. He was a Traffic Safety Officer and a DARE officer. Bill was promoted to Detective in 2006 where he served as the Senior Detective until his retirement. Bill was well known and respected in the community. His work ethic was excellent, and even more impressive was his law enforcement contacts. If you had a question, or needed assistance from an outside agency, Bill had the contact. Bill's biggest attribute was his willingness and desire to help others. He was always there to lend a hand in an investigation, arrest, paperwork and procedures. Bill has the biggest heart of anyone I know. He is one of the funniest people I know and most importantly, one of the best fathers I know. We were extremely fortunate to have him here with us. His retirement leaves a void in this department that will be too hard to fill. Congratulations Bill. We hope you have a long, happy and healthy retirement. I love you as a friend and we at GPD love you as member. See more

The Glenville Police Department is proud to announce that we will participate in our second annual fundraiser to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Eastern New York. Our participation is in honor and support of Finlay and Cullen Gilbert of Glenville. Finlay (7yoa) is in 2nd grade at Pashley Elementary School and Cullen (4yoa) will start kindergarten at Pashley next year. The brothers suffer from Becker Muscular Dystrophy which may result in mobility assistance as t...hey get older. As you may recall, the Glenville Police Benevolent Association and the Police Department administration raised nearly seven thousand dollars for the same organization in honor of Vivian White in 2019. This fundraiser was easily approved after the success of the event last year. Similar stipulations will have to be followed by GPD members this year. Each member will donate $50.00 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. In return for their donations, they will be allowed to grow a beard for the Month of November (Brovember). It has been brought to my attention that every member will donate to the cause, including the lieutenants and myself, which will generate $1200.00 in initial contributions. The announcement of this fundraiser has been well received by members of the Glenville Town Board and individuals have already pledged their support. If you would like to support our efforts, you can send a donation directly to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of New York or send a check or money order to the Glenville Police Benevolent Association, P.O. Box 2515, Glenville, NY, 12325, or through the PBA website at GlenvillePBA.org. Please see the attached picture of Finlay and Cullen. Two handsome and happy young boys! Thank you very much for your support. Chief Janik See more

The Glenville Town Board, once again, approved a resolution at the October 21st Town Board meeting for Safe Halloween 2020. Trick-or-treating is suggested during the hours of 4 pm-8 pm on Saturday, October 31st. This is the same resolution that has been approved for the past fifteen or more years. Residents have every right to decide not to participate if they choose. Residents who choose to participate are asked to hand candy out individually and not to place buckets of treats out that may result in multiple hands touching the candy. Masks are also encouraged. We want everyone to enjoy Halloween safely and in the healthiest way possible. GPD will be adding patrols during the four-hour timeframe to ensure a safe and enjoyable evening. SJ

The Glenville Police would like to announce the scheduled date of the next DEA Drug take back event: Date of takeback event: October 24, 2020 10AM to 2PM... Location: Town of Glenville Police Dept. Glenville Municipal Center 18 Glenridge Rd. Glenville NY 12302 The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. The Glenville Police are proud to support this event since its inception and provide this avenue of disposal to our community. Look for updates as this date draws closer. We regret, NO Liquids or Needles can be turned in at this event.
