To the Residents of the Glenwood Fire District: The Glenwood Fire Company is committed and working hard to provide the same high level of service that we have always been able to give our community. We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and have been making changes accordingly. Please only follow official County, State, and Federal directives and sources regarding information on the virus. As we continue to work towards helping our community, please understand t...hat whether you call Nassau County Fire Communications (516-742-3300) or 911, be prepared to answer questions from the dispatcher. This helps to prepare and protect our responders as they continue to provide essential and critical care. Please ensure that you provide as much information as possible regarding your symptoms so we can be amply prepared and you receive prompt response. We ask that you do not call an ambulance to simply get tested for the virus. This could potentially tie up our resources and impact our ability to respond to other emergencies. There are state testing sites at Jones Beach and Stony Brook University. If you need to be tested, please contact the COVID-19 hotline at 1-888-364-3065. In most cases, even confirmed cases of COVID-19, the treatment for the majority of patients is to remain home, self-quarantine, and practice social distancing. Please follow the guidelines set forth by the Department of Health and the Center For Disease Control (CDC) and contact your health care providers for guidance should your symptoms be severe. As first responders, we are one of the highest at risk for contracting the virus and have been taking extra precautions. You may see us wearing protective masks, gloves, gowns, and eye protection on many calls. This is not to be alarming and should not cause any panic; it is simply a measure we are taking to protect ourselves and ensure that we do not carry this home to our loved ones. In addition, we are asking residents to refrain from coming up to crews responding to an ambulance or fire call to see what is going on. Please practice social distancing; if there is cause for concern, we will make the appropriate notifications. We continue to work with neighboring towns, the Nassau County Police Department and our local government and health departments to remain informed. The Chief's office of the Glenwood Fire Company have partnered with the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to secure additional quanitities of vital Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure the safety of our members and the community at large. The Officers and Members of the Glenwood Fire Company are committed to providing the highest level of Fire and EMS service to our community and neighbors, especially through these challenging times. We appreciate your cooperation and support through this time. We will get through this pandemic together. Stay safe, be well, and thank you for understanding.

As PSE&G work to restore power, it may become necessary to use a portable generator. Please be mindful of where you place the generator. Keep it outside and away from your house. Do not run indoors. ... Keep the exhaust turned away from windows. Carbon Monoxide is colorless and odorless. Check to make sure you generator is rated for the appliances you wish to power. Its also a good idea to turn off your MAIN Breaker at the service panel until service is restored. A power surge may occur when the power is restored which could damage your appliances and electronics.

While practicing social distancing at home, use this time to clear hallways and exits of clutter. This will allow an easier escape during a fire and will give first responders access to your home during an emergency.

An Urgent Reminder from Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, "Follow the protocols in place and STAY HOME. If you feel mild COVID-19 symptoms, don't call 911 o...r report to the hospital - Call your healthcare provider or the NYS Hotline: 1-888-364-3065. Our biggest concerns right now: personnel, safety equipment, and ventilators. We're doing everything we can to build surge capacity and resources for our healthcare workers and first responders. Nassau County is on the front-lines of a war and we need our residents to do their part.
