We became acupuncturists because we wanted to live lives of service. We built Gotham City Acupuncture to be a safe space one that existed in stark contrast to the harsh environment that is New York City. If we don’t acknowledge our own privilege and actively condemn racism, white supremacy, and its resulting systematic oppression, we will fall short of that goal. Racism is a public health crisis. In order to play an active role in social change, we commit to educating oursel...ves on what it means to create an anti-racist culture. We will push forward discussions on health equity, patient centered care, and cultural competency in our field. Our first step includes training in Ethical and Culturally Competent Treatment of Trauma with Acupuncture. We made an oath when we began practicing to follow a higher moral calling and to do no harm. We refuse to remain silent in the face of injustice and complacency. We pledge to be conscious of the space we take up, to stand aside, and make room for BIPOC voices.
