This weekend we had a very special visitor, President Grant (portrayed by Curt Fields) stopped by his Grant Cottage home and delighted visitors enjoying the Historic Site. Did you know? Ulysses S. Grant named a giant sequoia #tree as the #GeneralGrant Tree in now Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks? The ~2,000-year-old tree over 270 feet high was later named the Nation’s Christmas Tree. The "Nation's Christmas Tree" is a national shrine and living memorial. Each #Christmas, a wreath is laid at the tree’s base to honor the United States’ fallen war heroes.

One of the things that makes Grant Cottage so special is the dedicated volunteers that enthusiastically share the site with the public. The historic site relies on their generosity to bring the compelling and relevant story of U.S. Grant to thousands of visitors every season. Even with the difficulties presented by the pandemic, they remained committed to the mission of interpreting history.
