This past Saturday, members from the GFD made the trip upstate to honor fallen firefighter Jared Lloyd, after losing his life over a week ago battling a fire in Spring Valley, NY. Firefighter Lloyd was on the first due engine that made the initial push into the adult home that was experiencing a very heavy fire load. After taking part in the rescue of over 100 elderly residents, he returned to the inside of the building after a report of a trapped victim on the third floor was made. He transmitted a MAYDAY after becoming separated from his team and was subsequently killed in the fire and structural collapse. It was an absolute honor to be in the presence of this mans services, and to be with all our firematic brothers and sisters from all over the country.
The Chief’s, Officers and Members would like to wish all of you and your families a very Happy Easter and Passover! Enjoy your day.
Our thoughts are with the brothers and sisters of the Spring Valley Fire Department in Rockland County, as they have recovered the body of one their firefighters killed in yesterday's horrific adult home blaze. https://www.google.com//spring-valley-fire-nursi/10444415/

Santa is back on the north route. See everyone soon!
GFD operating at a 13-35, working structure fire this morning. Upon arrival, the Chief of Department witnessed flames through the window out the 4 side of the house extending into the roof and eves. Engines from Greenlawn and Huntington Manor with a truck from GFD arrived shortly after and made an agressive interior attack confining the fire to 2 rooms on a second floor. Textbook truck placement and tactics deployed, made for an excellent stop.
Hello Facebook fans! Santa is taking a break and will resume at Clay Pitts Road and Cherub Court soon.
On the eve of what would have been our 114th annual firemen's fair, it is important to take a minute to recognize the history of our storied organization. What normally would have been a busy day/night finalizing details before opening our grounds to all the new and old faces of our community, we instead find ourselves in the midst of a global pandemic. The normal carnival lights, and familiar sounds have been replaced with a stark darkness behind our headquarters building ...on Boulevard Ave. I know many people will be missing the yearly labor day tradition, but it was with the utmost consideration we arrived at the decision to cancel this years festivities. Our family at the GFD just wants to extend the thanks and appreciation we have received from the public for their support throughout these trying times. We want to wish everyone a safe and happy end to this summer season, and will without a doubt be back bigger and better next year. We look forward to seeing everyone again soon... Some key dates in our Departments history: 1902- GFD founded. 1906- First Fair Ganies X Railroad Barn. 1908- Firehouse Built at 23 Boulevard Ave. 1910- Firehouse Opened at 23 Boulevard Ave. First Fair at new Firehouse! 1918- Due to Spanish flu outbreak NYS banded public assembly. NO FAIR 1920's- we started raffling off a car. Hose company out of Babylon win the first car. 1939 to 1944- No cars where raffled due to WW2. 1960-Greenlawn fire dept sold the property and contents of the firehouse to the Greenlawn fire district. 1962- Constructed 3 bay expansion, and bought the 3 houses to the east of the fire house. **2020- NO FAIR due to COVID 19 pandemic.

The GFD is actively looking for new members to join our ranks. We will provide all equipment, uniform and training necessary, plus many other additional benefits. If you have any questions or interest in becoming a member, please reach out to myself.... [email protected]
It is with the utmost regret, that we must announce the cancellation of the 2020 Greenlawn Firemen's Fair during Labor Day weekend. It was the longest-running Firemen's Fair in the state of New York, having occurred every Labor Day weekend since 1906. This decision was not made in haste, and we examined all options before finally settling on this tough decision. During these times we must protect our community and our members. There is a donation letter going out to the resid...ents of our fire district, and we would greatly appreciate your support and help. Thank you very much, and we will see you in 2021! The Chiefs, Officers, and Members of the Greenlawn Fire Department. After many requests, we have attached the link to our PayPal and Venmo donation pages. Hello Facebook fans. Santa is taking a break on the north route. Will pick up at Clay Pitts and cherub Court soon.
The last 3 months have been extremely taxing on our community and our department as a whole. While we are not completely out of the woods yet, things are definitely heading in the right direction. Coupled with the uptick in post-covid 19 alarms, and the fact many of our members are returning to full time work schedules, we will no longer be taking requests for birthday/graduation drive-bys. We thank everyone for allowing us to be a part of their families celebrations, and look forward to seeing you around town.
HERE IS THE SANTA TRACKER FOR TODAYS OPERATION SANTA!!! (There will be 2 trucks out to service our district , Greenlawn North and Greenlawn South). Follow along and reference the published route that was published on this route earlier in the week!!!! https://christmaslightsli.com/
At 2005Hrs this evening the Greenlawn Volunteer FD was dispatched to a reported car fire to the rear of the shopping center at 770 Pulaski Rd . Upon arrival Chief of Department Joe Costanza confirmed an involved auto with Assistant Chiefs 31 and 32 . Fire crew from Sta 1s Engine 2-7-8 quickly extinguished the fire . EMS ambulances 2-7-25 from Sta 1 and HQs 2-7-45 stood by on scene . There were no injuries.
This morning, members of the Greenlawn Fire Department paid their respects to service members that have given the ultimate sacrifice to this nation, as well as first responders that have lost their lives in service to their communities. While we were not able to take part in our annual parade and larger scale service at the Greenlawn Memorial Park, we were able to honor these special men and women in our own private ceremonies.
MANY THANKS to the Commack IHOP for dropping off a delicious breakfast to our crews this morning... You cannot imagine the appreciation we all feel when the community does things like this for us....
Even though our annual memorial day parade is canceled this year, we would like to let all groups and organizations know that you are still welcome to pay your respects and present any wreaths that you may have, any time on memorial day at the memorial park located on the south east corner of Pulaski Road and Broadway. Please, continue to practice safe social distancing while doing so. Stay healthy and safe. Greenlawn FD
