Congratulations to Guilderland PD's newest officer Mario Hluch who was sworn in today by Guilderland Town Supervisor Peter Barber. Officer Hluch is a later transfer from the Albany County Sheriff's Department and fills a spot recently vacated by a retirement. He will be assigned to the patrol division following a period of field training. Congratulations to Guilderland Police Department's newest officers, Brandon Carkner and Matthew Davis, who were sworn in today by Guilderland Town Supervisor Peter Barber. Officer Carkner comes to Guilderland as a lateral transfer from the Albany Police. Officer Davis, also a later transfer, comes from the Albany County Sheriff's Dept. The officers will be assigned to the patrol division following a period of field training. A formal ceremony will be held at a later date. On December 30, 2020, Supervisor Peter Barber presided over the promotions of four officers and the swearing in of one new officer who joins the Guilderland Police Department. - Lt. Eric Batchelder was promoted to the rank of Captain. Captain Batchelder was hired in 2001 and promoted to Lieutenant in 2015. He has overseen the Patrol Division, Communications Division and Community Services Unit. - Sr. Investigator Tom Funk was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant. F/Sgt. Fun...k was hired in 1994, and in 2008 he was promoted to Senior Investigator and since overseen the Criminal Investigations Unit. - Officer Matt Hanzalik was promoted to the rank of Investigator. Inv. Hanzalik was hired in 2009 and has been working in the Community Services Unit since 2014. - Officer Damir Svraka was promoted to the rank of Retail Interdiction Detail (R.I.D.) Investigator. Inv. Svraka joined the department in 2017 as a lateral transfer from the Troy Police and had been assigned to the Patrol Division. - Officer Michael Doynow was sworn in as Guilderland’s newest officer. Officer Doynow is a lateral transfer from the Albany County Sheriff’s Dept. He will be assigned to the patrol division following field training. Congratulations to all!

Arrests Made Following Larceny and Pedestrian Injury The Guilderland Police Department has arrested Lovell T. Roper DOB: 03/16/1993, of Glens Falls, NY, and James M. Carlton, DOB: 04/17/1981, of Hudson Falls, NY following a larceny complaint and foot chase by Guilderland officers that originated from a store located in Crossgates Mall today at 3:30 p.m. During the incident, James Carlton fled the scene in a vehicle striking a pedestrian that was in the parking lot. Carlton w...as later located and taken into custody without incident by SUNY Police on Waverly Place. The pedestrian was treated at the scene by Guilderland EMS for non-life threatening injuries. Lovell Roper was taken into custody near the Homewood Suites hotel near the mall. James Carlton has been charged with Petit Larceny and Resisting Arrest. Lovell Roper was charged with Reckless Endangerment 2nd and Assault 3rd. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

On September 11, 2020, Town Supervisor Peter Barber swore in three new officers during an informal ceremony at town hall, as the department continues to fill vacancies left by recent retirements. Officer Christopher Oades is a lateral transfer from the Albany Police Department where he has been an officer for 9 years. Officer Nicholas Marcella comes from the Albany County Sheriff’s Department where he was a deputy for 2 years. Officer Kasey Straus transfers from the Saratoga... County Sheriff’s Department where she was a deputy for 2 years. All three will begin field training on September 14th and then will be assigned to the patrol division. A formal ceremony for all 2020 promotions and new hires will be held later this year. Congratulations to all! Congratulations to Guilderland PD's newest Officer, Sean Ralston, who was sworn in September 4, 2020, at an informal swearing in ceremony at the Guilderland Town Hall. Officer Ralston comes to Guilderland having previously worked for the Altamont Police Department. Following field training he will be assigned to the patrol division. A formal ceremony will be held at a later date.

***** Update **** One of the motorcycle riders has died from his injuries. Deceased is JONWILLIAM (Jon) P. FOREMAN, age 21, from Loudonville, NY.... Other rider is identified as AUSTIN WOLCOTT, age 21, from Colonie, NY who remains hospitalized. Serious Motorcycle Crash At about midnight this morning (9/5/20) the Guilderland Police Department responded to a serious motorcycle accident on Stone Road by the intersection of Ostrander Road in Guilderland Center. Two dirt bikes were involved in a collision causing serious injuries to the two twenty-one year old riders. Upon the arrival of the police officers they began CPR on one of the victims. Both victims were then treated at the scene by Guilderland Emergency Medical Services and transported to Albany Medical Center. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Today, the Guilderland Police Department arrested a 15 year old juvenile male in connection with the Crossgates Mall shooting that occurred on July 22, 2020. Name and photograph will not be released because of his age. On that day at approximately 3pm, members of the Guilderland Police Department and other Capital District Police agencies responded to a shooting incident within Crossgates Mall. It was determined that this was an isolated incident. One shot was fired by the ju...venile, no one was hit and there were no injuries. After a lengthy investigation, the juvenile was subsequently identified and arrested today in the City of Albany with the assistance of the Albany Police Department. The juvenile has been charged in Albany County Family Court with the following: Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree - Class D Felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree - Class A Misdemeanor In addition, he was arrested on an outstanding Albany County Family Court warrant. The Albany County Family Court judge remanded the juvenile to a secured juvenile detention facility pending the disposition of the above case.

Although donations are still being accepted tonight for the food drive at the YMCA between 6 and 7:30 pm there are now extended hours for drop off of donations due to the weather. Donations may be dropped off tomorrow and Thursday at the YMCA between 7am and 7pm. So please do not travel tonight during the storm and avoid flooded roadways.
