Smoke Detector PSA! Has your detector reached its end of life? . Most Smoke/Fire/CO detectors have about a 10 year usable lifespan. At about 8 years, you may start hearing a short noise alerting that it’s time for replacement. Please check your detectors and look for the birth date listed on the back (circled in picture). Read the directions on the back and change as needed. This will help reduce the chances for false alarms or malfunctions. The detector shown was installed shortly after Sandy, and it alerted that it has reached its end of life.
