Jalopy Theatre and School of Music 05.06.2021

We announced the new Lomax Digital Archive today. It's a massive overhaul/expansion of the clunky old "research center" (built in 2005) so a long time coming ...and a real satisfaction to share. https://archive.culturalequity.org/ It makes searching/sharing easier, mobile access possible, and the 110 hours of 19331942 Library of Congress Mississippi and Kentucky recordings available in collaboration with our friends at the American Folklife Center. (More LC-era collections will be included as $ becomes available for digitization/cataloging). It also includes an exhibition space and launches with Trouble Won’t Last Always, a tour through a daily song series we ran in the first months of the pandemic. See under "Exhibits." If you use it, I hope you enjoy it. And it's got an easy correction form you can submit re: errors that it no doubt contains but that we can finally fix with ease...

Countdown to the 4th annual Mid-Winter Rendezvous! Watch The Ever-Lovin’ Jug Band open the Rendezvous on Friday 2/12/21 @ 8pm on FB Live and YouTube, right before Nora Brown & Jackson Lynch! There's only two people on stage, but you hear a full band: two lead singers, the interplay of fiddle, jug, and kazoo melodies, guitar, banjolin, and a foot-operated bass instrument. The Ever-Lovin' Jug Band combines the skill, fun, and spectacle of two one-man bands with a vast repertoi...re of 1920s & 30s jug band music and two albums' worth of original material. Minnie Heart & Bill Howard have played at festivals and venues across Canada, the United States, and Europe, and they always go over like gangbusters. @everlovinjugband #everlovinjugband #jugband #stringband #folkmusic #folkfest #musicfestival #onlinemusicfestival

Compete for a free banjo! Play the Banjo Toss video game, brand new from the Brooklyn Folk Fest. Contests details below:... The Banjo Toss: Banjo Throwing Competition http://brooklynfolkfest.com/banjo-toss/ Play now on your computer or smartphone! The Banjo Toss: Banjo Throwing Competition replicates in digital format the signature absurd contest of the Brooklyn Folk Festival, held annually on the banks of the Gowanus Canal, a federally designated superfund site. Players get 10 chances to rack up points by hurling the special throwing banjo as far as they can into the canal. Watch out for the Gowanusaurus! and don’t forget to aim for the water! Whoever gets the high score in the video game during the week of the festival (with screenshot to prove it) gets a free banjo mailed to them or the friend / enemy of their choice! How to Win: Post a screenshot of your highest score on the social media giant of your choice: Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #banjotossvideogame and also tag the Brooklyn Folk Fest (Facebook: @BrooklynFolkFestivalTwitter/Instagram @BklynFolkFest ). Contest begins on Monday, Oct. 19th #banjotossvideogame #banjotoss #brookynfolkfestival #jalopytheatre #banjo #winabanjo
