Morning routines How you start matters Morning routines can be an expression of how I desire to show up each day.... But what if I can’t do my morning routine one day? This came up in one of my lectures over the weekend. If you’re a parent your baby might wake up in the middle of the night. Or maybe you just hit the snooze button 14 times and don’t get to it. Do you suffer the guilt from not doing it? We can get into a psychological battle with ourselves about what we are and are not doing which diminishes the utility of a powerful tool. Imagine waking up in a small village 1000’s of years ago with a barbarian hoard about to attack your village. Would you politely ask them to delay their attack so that you could finish your meditation? We don’t always get to set up our life perfectly. And if I dwell on things not being set up just right I risk being maimed by the incoming savages. I hope you’re having a wonderful day in the great arena, Justin PS - are you interested in receiving the Movement Mapping morning routine? I’m sending it to my Mail list today. If you’re interested in receiving free practice tools send me a message with your email address. Photo by @paulchambers1970

All Practice No Application - https://mailchi.mp/f/movement-mapping-20-is-coming-11193607

Justin Wolfer Yoga 04.05.2021

All Practice no application Practicing Yoga on a Yoga mat is the least valuable time for it. Practicing health at a health club is the least valuable time for it.... One of the most common mistakes I see from people pursuing health and well-being is thinking it needs to be done at a certain place and only at certain times. Health and well-being is not a destination. It’s not a number. It is aligning with what you care about. For some it’s six pack abs. For some it’s mental clarity. An abundance of energy. Or even enjoyment. I want to be able to keep doing the stuff I love to do. There are no wrong answers. The most important thing you can do in life is develop awareness and sensitivity to what it is you care for. Use your training to develop the life tools to do this. One of the most important tools you can develop is learning how to relax. The benefits of achieving deep relaxation are greater then exercise as all exercise requires recovery. I’m sending 2 free videos to mailinglist on how to practice and Develop Awareness & Sensitivity to down regulate your nervous system in real time. If you’d like to be on my mailinglist I’ll leave a link in the comment section. Go get it today! Rooting for you, Justin

Why am I NOT thrilled to be alive? - https://mailchi.mp/8/movement-mapping-20-is-coming-11193267

Justin Wolfer Yoga 12.04.2021

Why am I NOT thrilled to be alive? Imagine that I was born in a forest. And all of the sudden I noticed that I was really lost and became concerned.... And every attempt I made to find out where I was resulted in me right back where I started. So the urgency grew. And then my legs began rebelling against me. So I stopped walking. And there I lay unable to move. Incapable of navigating this terrain. An IPad fell from the sky so I watched other people moving and navigating. It filled the time but I longed to navigate. The most important terrain to navigate is within you. If no one has taught you how to navigate this terrain you will feel helpless and immobile. When you learn self navigation the world is a play ground. This is my passion as a coach! To make students skilled movers and navigators. If you are looking for some guidance send me a message. Let’s start climbing! Rooting for you. Justin

Have you ever struggled with the label talented? - https://mailchi.mp/6/movement-mapping-20-is-coming-11193043

Justin Wolfer Yoga 12.03.2021

Have you ever struggled with the label talented? You are so talented When I was young I took a state math test and scored in the 99th percentile and people started calling me smart. And I would stress about being smart.... When I started playing sports people labeled me athletic and I would stress about being athletic. When my college athletics career was over I stressed because I had wasted my talent. When I became proficient at Yoga I started to hear those things again. He’s so talented. I stressed about being a talented Yoga teacher. When I created @movement_mapping I actually believed in what I had created and I expected my own success to happen instantly and it didn’t so I stressed about not being an instant success. The lesson I’ve learned is that labels don’t mean shit. Especially in this social media world. All they do is put me into a box and create anxiety. I’ll happily work in the trenches. Let the chips fall where they may. Justin

Why I STOPPED marketing to Yogis - https://mailchi.mp/7/movement-mapping-20-is-coming-11192779

Justin Wolfer Yoga 23.01.2021

Why I STOPPED marketing to Yogis Even before I created @movement_mapping my teaching style was changing. I was less handstand flow and more experimentation into incorporating more types of movement and specific mobility tools that I learned through the Functional Range Conditioning training. My intention was to be a better teacher with more tools help modern students.... What I found was that if I wasn’t teaching the old formula with triangle and pigeon and all the other poses that were expected the regular Yoga students didn’t want it. Even the ones that had developed back and hip issues via practice. There were also students that had been completely turned off by what was being taught by Western teachers and wanted nothing to do with anything labeled Yoga. When I’d teach at Corporate classes there would be 3 yogis that were gagging for the intense Power style Yoga and everyone else that needed very foundational movements and relaxation. As a teacher I felt no one was happy in those scenarios. Now that I teach predominantly Movement Mapping I’ve found so many of those problems have gone away. Students come in with no expectations to a progressive practice that can handle a diverse group or provide the specificity needed for 1-2-1 work. Movement Mapping 2.0 is coming! I am reshooting and updating all of my courses. They are on sale now. Send me a message if you want more information. Movement Mapping Level 1 Course will be renamed and updated to Movement Mapping Flow State 30 Hr Certification Course. The focus is on group practice, learning processes and developing movement complexity and flow mindset. Movement Mapping Level 2 Course will be renamed and updated to Movement Mapping Kinetic Stretch 50 Hr Certification Course. The focus will be 1-2-1 training, group mobility training for athletes and professionals. This is a much more specific tool box for acquiring range of motion, resiliency in the joints, reduced pain complaints, balance, coordination, and deep relaxation and recovery. Would You Like to be Part of this Movement!?

Yoga and close-mindedness 5 years into my Yoga journey practice I began learning Capoeria with my friend. When I started I assumed I would be GREAT at it because I had practiced Ashtanga Yoga devoutly for 5 years and was working on completing the 2nd Series. Capoeira, for those unfamiliar, is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. The movements are very unique. Particularly the emphasis on circular and rotation movement planes.... This is not a practice for a rectangular mat. When I began practicing the movements I noticed myself struggling to learn them. My joints didn’t move in that way which surprised me. At the time I was under the assumption that Yoga did everything the body needed to do and thus I should be capable. What was even more interesting was that I became very self-conscious about my struggles. I thought I was over my insecurities thanks to Yoga. I’m not criticizing Yoga. This was my own presumptions about myself and my lack of awareness. 2 key insights from this experience: 1. Any practice, tradition, religion has the potential to narrow our perspective. And perhaps with more potential for damage to ourselves and others. Because we typical engage with these practices with the opposite intention. We narrow under the guise of opening. 2. The Yoga practice and perhaps all singular disciplines do not do everything. And it is highly valuable to seek out alternatives if only for the sake of understanding ones art more closely. Is it safe to run again? Part 2 of the Cost of modern living to our health series I work with many runners and cyclist rehabilitating from injuries. Sometimes the injury is caused by running. Sometimes the injury is aggravated by running.... When we start to see progress one of the first things I’m asked is: is it safe to run again? Because running is causing so many issues we start to believe that running is bad for us. Running is one of the most human activities. It is what we have evolved thousands of generations to do well. The fact that running is causing so many issues should reveal something to us about what is happening to our physicality. Running is not bad for me. I am not prepared to run. I have lost something so fundamental to my physicality. I can’t even try it without worrying about the consequences. It’s time for a change. Time to reclaim our humanness. If not the problems will persist. No technology can replace my wonderful mind and body.
