Tom Guay, General Manager of The Sagamore Resort, supports the merger of The Lake George Association and The FUND for Lake George to create the new LGA: To have two preeminent organizations join forces with one common goal is amazing. Lake George will no doubt be the benefactor of their collaboration. This could not come at a better time as we continue to see threats to this amazing Lake at every turn. Through science-guided leadership and shared interests, the new LGA will be able to move the needle, ensuring that Lake George continues to provide pristine waters, an economic driver for this region, and natural beauty which can be admired and appreciated for generations to come. Queensbury Town Supervisor John Strough supports the merger of The Lake George Association and The FUND for Lake George to create the new LGA: Lake George’s environmental vulnerabilities have come into focus recently and the need to address them can no longer be delayed. This is clearly a new organization where the sum is greater than its parts; the complementary synergism that results will be needed going forward. This couldn’t happen at a better time. I’m in, we’re in.... To learn more, visit newlga.org. #newlga

Kathy Flacke Muncil, CEO of The Fort William Henry Hotel and Conference Center supports the merger of The Lake George Association and The FUND for Lake George to create the new LGA: This merger reflects a truly positive combination of talent, passion, funding and a desire to push Lake George to the forefront of clean, clear water programs based on techniques guided by science. As a business owner, I have a real sense of comfort that this new organization has even more brai...npower and data to help us thrive in business while protecting the reason for that business Lake George. I thank the boards and senior managers of these two organizations for seeing that the sum of their abilities creates a triple threat to that which might hurt the Lake. We are safer for this combined brain power and passion. To learn more, visit newlga.org. #newlga

Frozen Lake, Frozen Narrows -- and plenty of anglers trying their luck! Taken with the LGA drone at about 400 feet above Bolton today (2/17/2021).
We have Ice-in! The LGA, in consultation with our members -- and our friends at the Darrin Fresh Water Institute -- have determined that "Ice-In" for Lake George was this morning, February 11, 2021. Much of the Lake had already frozen, but the stubborn area in Hague had open water across the Lake through the last few days. The wind stopped after the snow on Tuesday night and the rest froze. Our definition of ice-in is when someone could walk from one end of the Lake to the ...other solely on the ice though it is *NOT SAFE TO WALK ON YET* in many areas! While you can see in the accompanying photo a few small wet spots in Hague this morning (whether holes or just water on the ice), the rest has frozen. The Lake did not fully freeze last year, so it is the first time it is fully covered in ice since 2019. (Ice-out in 2019 was April 13, Ice-in in 2019 was January 22.) In fact, the Lake has stayed open (not fully frozen over) seven of the last 21 years.

Not racing stripes on the Northway today, but the first widespread salt brine application by state DOT this year. We love seeing this because the use of brine cuts back on the amount of salt needed to clear the roads of ice and snow -- lowering the salt volume in the surrounding environment. #workingtolowersaltsince2014 #letsbecarefuloutthere #lakegeorgeassociation #protectLG #protectLakeGeorgewater
Northern Lake George sunset from the home office window just now. It sets so early and so far south in December!
Thank you, Governor Andrew Cuomo for signing the "Randy Preston Road Salt Reduction Act" which will benefit all waterways in the Adirondacks -- including Lake George -- by studying and proposing changes in the way our communities use salt. The LGA has been working with watershed towns since 2012 on salt reduction, and they have already made significant changes in de-icing procedures. https://www.adirondackexplorer.org/s/cuomo-backs-salt-study
Today is known as Giving Tuesday, where nonprofit needs are in the national focus. We know that you have been bombarded with requests today there are many great organizations that need our help at this time. We hope that you will consider the Lake George Association one of them. https://www.lakegeorgeassociation.org/become-a-memb/donate/... All gifts (and membership donations) to the LGA go directly to work at Lake George by providing projects and programs to keep our Lake clean. Those direct, actual water quality protection projects and educational programs strengthen our already-strong communities and protect the Lake. Thank you for whatever financial support you can give us today to keep your Lake protected now and in the future!

Special message from The Lake George Association and The FUND for Lake George on our Harmful Algal Bloom Response - Working Together To Determine the Cause, Prioritize Planned Projects and Identify Preventative Actions https://www.lakegeorgeassociation.org//special-message-fr/
DEC and partners have completed this year's treatment to control and prevent the spread of Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) on Forest Preserve lands in Washington C...ounty, as part of an ongoing, multi-year effort. DEC confirmed the HWA infestation in August. The affected hemlock trees were located in the Glen Island Campground on the shore of Lake George, along the shoreline of Shelving Rock Special Management Area, at the Buck Mountain Trailhead, and on Dome Island. HWA, a tiny insect from East Asia first discovered in New York in 1985, attacks forest and ornamental hemlock trees. It feeds on young twigs, causing needles to dry out and drop prematurely and cause branch dieback. Early detection and rapid response to invasive pests is central to protecting New York's natural resources. After initially finding HWA in New York, DEC, Cornell's New York State Hemlock Initiative, the Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program (APIPP), and Lake George Land Conservancy staff spent approximately 100 days surveying and delineating the infestation to prepare for treatment. Additional survey and treatment will be required in future years to effectively manage this infestation. https://www.dec.ny.gov/press/121771.html

For the first time, Lake George has experienced a Harmful Algal Bloom -- Identified by the LGA and confirmed by the state DEC --and an infuriating discovery. We need to work together now to break this awful cycle before it continues, and before it seriously damages the Lake’s water quality forever. After 135 years of protection, our generation cannot be the ones to let this happen. This is the first confirmed HAB on Lake George....
