$80,000.00 Tree Removal Fee ! ! Yes, you read correctly. The NYC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) found that my client should pay $80,000.00 for the lux...ury of: 1) removing trees that are NOT within DPR jurisdiction 2) endanger the health, safety and welfare of the neighborhood and all that regardless of the fact that the fee will BANKRUPT a single family homeowners DREAM. DPR gave little to no consideration that there is an 8'-0" hill fronting the site preventing access to anyone that is not riding a GOAT. The site was APPROVED by DOT for full street widening and as a result the 8'-0" hill would have to be removed to install curb and sidewalk. The trees by extension would have to be removed. Should my client be denied the right to improve the street at their expense whereby installing a sidewalk and curb would benefit the neighborhood ?? I do like planting trees. My applications have resulted in thousands of trees being planted over the years but there are site specific locations where cutting down trees is warranted. This is the POSTER CHILD for such a scenario. How would First Responders such as FDNY and EMS respond God forbid an emergency occurred at this location ?? The trees are no thicker than my thigh and the only option is to plant and maintain 40 trees at their expense for an additional 2 years ! Shame on you !!
