Lessons CANCELED 9/13-16 due to high surf from the tropical storm activity. For all the beginners out there may want to give it a try, just remember: when in doubt, don’t go out! There are multiple long period swells out there creating these waves which means the surf height will likely be much bigger and more powerful than the forecast summaries suggest. For all the experienced surfers who have been dying to get waves, be kind to own another in the lineup and have fun!

Hey Locals family. While we have been having a really fun and safe summer so far, we have some very sad news to share. Several months ago, one of our very own instructors, Marc Lawrence, passed away after battling cancer. It has taken us some time to process this loss and to feel ready to share the news with our extended family of Locals supporters. For those of you who knew Marc, he was truly one of the nicest guys we have ever met. I don’t know a single person who could say... anything otherwise about him! He was literally always smiling, laughing, or being kind to others. That sprit of joy was infectious as Marc made everyone around him feel happy and better for knowing him. Marc loved music, surfing, the Rockaways, and Locals. He had a passion for sharing his love of these things with others which is what made him such a great instructor and a great friend. He will be sorely missed. You can honor Marc’s legacy by donating to his charity of choice, @surfrider (link in bio) and join us for a paddle out in his memory on August 9th at 8am. More details to follow. For those of you who knew Marc but can’t make it, think of him next time you paddle out and remember to be kind to one another as Marc would have been @ Locals Surf School
