Long Island Volleyball Association 07.11.2020

Long Island Volleyball Association Update June 18th, 2020 LIVA 2020 League Status: LIVA has spoken to both NY State and The Town of Babylon officials and as of now they are updating us week by week. Like us they want to have volleyball this summer. They have informed us that things are now opening up quickly and if the numbers (Covid) remain as low as they are now, we think we have a good shot at playing this summer. Nothing is definite yet but it's the most positive news we ...have heard to date. LIVA is hoping to start the leagues as soon as the 1st or 2nd week of July. This will allow for a 12 or 11 week season at Cedar Beach and Robert Moses and the full 15 weeks at Jones Beach. Jones has outdoor lighting allowing us to play through Sept. and part of October (note the latest we have played at Jones has been the last week of October due to storms). Cedar and Robert Moses can only run till the 3rd week of September as we lose sunlight after that. Cedar and Robert Moses leagues will be prorated based on when we start and weeks we can play. Same for Jones if we can't get the full 15 weeks scheduled. The minimum number of weeks we will run the leagues is 8 weeks. Please check our website for updates and we will email and post on our media pages any updated news as we move forward. Team Registration is still open. Click link at bottom to register. We will reserve your spot. No payment is due till we have a definite start date. Thank you to all the thousands of people that have signed our petition to Cuomo to allow outdoor volleyball in NY. It has been faxed and emailed to the Governor and sent out to social media outlets. Hopefully they will see the importance and common sense of people now doing something that is healthy and stress relieving soon as the numbers of people suffering from depression and anxiety and other things is reaching record highs according to the CDC and media outlets. https://longislandvolleyball.com Have fun and be well! Long Island Volleyball Association Update May 21st, 2020 LIVA is Petitioning Governor Cuomo and we need your help. In our on going effort to get leagues started LIVA has petitioned Governor Cuomo to include outdoor Volleyball in the list of approved recreational activities in New York. The petition includes reasons why outdoor volleyball should be approved along with LIVA's Covid Operational/Safety Plan for our 2020 Leagues.... We ask that not only LIVA players sign the petition but ask all beach/outdoor volleyball players/leagues and their family and friends sign the petition so we can all start playing volleyball as soon as possible this summer. Below is the link to sign and to post on you social media and to email out to people you know as well. Thank you. LIVA League Plan for 2020 Season -May 6th, 2020 Remember, Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. Stephen King Season start date as we all know is dependent on the course of Covid infections. ... LIVA has planned ahead and is still working in the hope that we can play this year. Below is LIVA's latest on Schedules and New League Improvements: LIVA Season Start Date/Registration Status: LIVA can start leagues as late as the end of June mid - July at Robert Moses and Cedar Beach and end in the 3rd week of September (we lose sunlight after that). Leagues at Jones Beach can start as late as end of July and run through October per outdoor lighting at Jones Beach (latest we have played at Jones was Nov. 2nd in 2018). Teams will be kept updated as we move through the next 6 to 10 weeks as to league status/start date. Despite Covid some leagues are filled (Thursday Cedar) and other leagues are close to filled. LIVA is averaging 10 registered teams a day. LIVA will adjust fees based on length of season. At this point we think that even an 8 week season will be gladly welcomed by all. Teams can register and their spot will be reserved. You will receive an email confirming your spot and to not send in any fees till we have a start date. LIVA New League Improvements: Each team captain will receive a volleyball this year. Each winning team captain on each court will now input scores via phone online vs handing in scorecard. In addition, at Cedar Beach the Salt Shack will be taking orders via your phone and will deliver food and drinks to your courts (links to follow). Teams will now be able to pay their team fees online on our website by check or credit card. *Note we have safety guidelines ready to go if required by Local and State officials if need be by the time the leagues start. We will keep you posted on this as well. We are working hard to make this season happen and to make it run as efficiently and safely as possible. We thank all our loyal players through the years. -Be Safe & Be Well- We’ll See you on the Beach! Joe Strining (Managing Director) and the rest of the LIVA Crew

LIVA 2020 Season Update March 26th, 2020 LIVA wishes all our loyal players through the years and their family's well as we move through this crisis. Hang in there as we still hope for a 2020 Summer Season. ‘’When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn’’.... -Harriet Beecher Stowe League Status Update: In the abundance of caution and is the right thing to do considering this crisis, LIVA asks that teams hold off sending in any fees. We have removed the $100 deposit fee and the May 1st deadline date for teams to be paid in full. This decision is based solely on the fact that teams are still reserving their teams at a remarkable rate considering this crisis and the fact that it will be a logistical nightmare for LIVA to return thousands of player fees. So go ahead and register your team and LIVA will reserve and confirm your spot via email as always. LIVA will also email you when to send in the fees (as of last week "sending in no fees" was included in our team registration confirmation email). In the meantime, we are also working on an online payment system that many have asked for and will help once we hope to get the go ahead to play this Summer. We also ask that teams that have paid the $100 deposit to hold off sending in your balance. For those teams that have paid their deposit or team fees in full LIVA will refund your money in the event that we may have to cancel the leagues. League Start Date Update: LIVA has not changed our opening day as we have 2 months before the league begins (end of May). If it becomes necessary to postpone opening day we can extend the league accordingly. We can start as late as end of June (3 months from now) and play into September if need be.
