During our #MarineParkAlliance volunteer day yesterday, a hearty crew of volunteers tackled this huge pile of wood chips to spread around the base of trees to protect their roots and ward off weeds. Stephanie Samaroo-Martinez and her children Christina and Steven plant a flowering dogwood tree in honor of their beloved father and grandfather. He was a towering figure of love and understanding and they'll be caring for this tree devotedly for years to come. There are so many ways to celebrate Arbor Day today, whether it's planting a tree, hugging one, or capturing its likeness in artwork. What tree-related thing you will do on Arbor Day? Mulchfest closes with great collaboration between BSA Troop 396, NYC Parks foresters and field crew, and Marine Park Alliance board members. Thank you to all involved! What is Mulchfest? People drop off their used Christmas trees and we chip them into mulch. It’s great for your garden! Come on by and fill a bag with mulch for your garden or to ring around the base of the tree.
