All of us at Riccardo’s Market are both shocked and saddened by yesterday’s senseless tragedy. Our community lost two wonderful and caring people, who will be missed greatly. Our deepest sympathies to both the O’Brien and Quigg families.

Happy New Year! What a crazy year 2020 has been! Even with all of the chaos and uncertainty that 2020 brought us ....I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for all our blessings! I was humbled this past year ........ Honestly, we couldn’t have done it without this community! I’m so thankful for all the local support.... the people of Watertown and surrounding towns are Rock Stars! They truly came together and supported local businesses! Thank you! I’m honored to have been able to continue to serve our old customers and thankful for the new customers that were made! I consider you all part of my family! Thank you! Braciole Pronunciation - bra-choh-leh As I laid out the braciole meat the other day I thought of the countless members of my family I watched do the same thing........ Peeling the thin slice of top round and laying the piece on the table reminded of years ago, my Uncle Richard precisely slicing paper thin meat and stacking the filets on trays. It has to be thin he’d say as he worked the slicer, the thinner it is the more tender it will be. Who knew back then I’d be watching my husband carefully slicing and stacking braciole meat some 30 years later in anticipation of myself making braciole. In the early years of purchasing the store, my Gramma and her sisters would all march in the store with their button up aprons in different pastel colors and floral patterns in order to help and teach me how to prepare and tie that braciole. My Gramma, Mary Morgia Crescenzi, and her sisters, Alta Fiorentino, Angie Mathieu, and Aggie Natali would carry out the big board and gather around .... their laughter and stories mesmerizing me as they effortlessly worked. How lucky I was to be able to witness their craft. They worked together in unison making short work of a 60lb piece of top round. Carefully laying out the thin slices and seasoning them in an assembly line and stuffing them. The key is rolling and tieing them my Gramma would say...and I’m lucky to have learned from the best! I know I’m blessed and I know my many other cousins feel the same way! Even toward the end of my Gramma’s life she would come to the store and sit in the kitchen and tie those braciole. Her mind had since forgotten names and some faces but her fingers never forgot how to tie the braciole! Braciole was a staple in our home at the holidays ....served with a heaping bowl of gnocchi. Holiday favorites in our store, made fresh! Manicotti....Gnocchi....Macaroni Call to order (315)782-7810 As the Holiday Season progresses and as always it gets crazier and more hectic, I took a moment to reflect back on some amazing women who taught me how to cook these traditional Italian dishes! ... As a made Manicotti crepes, I thought of my grandmother, Mary Crescenzi, my mother, Eileen Pierce, and aunt, Shirley Crescenzi. There are many more women but I have vivid memories of these three! I grew up watching them standing over the stovetop magically able to work up to 4 frying pans, I think they could use more if they had more burners! They were like conductors in an orchestra perfectly timing each frying pan and magically never burning their fingers.....It truly was a gift!!! I remember them laying the crepes on the table and filling them with a delicious cheese mixture, each one was perfectly rolled. These Manicotti melt in your mouth, it is amazing the difference from store bought crepes! Manicotti was always my birthday request meal growing up! How fortunate I am to have learned this recipe from these amazing and talented women and blessed to be able to share in my Market. The most pans I can use are two.... maybe some day I’ll be able to use four like they did!
