A former dental surgeon and film producer (The Plague, 1992), American sculpture Jonathan Prince is inspired by nature, science, the human body, and ancient artefacts. His works are a merging of man, machine, stone, and steel. Fissures, ruptures, punctures, and gashes are recurrent motifs, often interrupting the highly polished, smooth surfaces of his sculptures, revealing contrasting rough and raw interiors. The grotto sauna, brilliantly designed by Toronto architecture firm Partisans, is a feat of old-world craftsmanship and new-world sustainability and technology. Located on Georgian Bay, Ontario, a simple exterior of cedar, charred using the traditional Japanese Shou Sugi Ban method, houses a sinuous interior. The work of Thomas Burgh (Irish, 16701730), the library that holds many ancient texts (such as the Book of Kells, the Book of Durrow and the the Book of Howth) was completed in 1732.
